My tour guide was amazing, it was very informative and the statu complex is out of this world. They were so kind I almost missed my tour because of traffic from the airport and they sent some to the hotel to pick me up
Unfortunately the experience didn’t happen. I was confirming the tour 48hrs before and then clarified where exactly at the Shaangri-La was the meet point around 22hrs before the tour. They replied late evening to say the pick up location had completely changed and was now a 40 minute walk away from the original location or a 20 minute drive. I replied 2 minutes later saying this wasn’t possible for me to get to by 8am and asked if they could make alternative arrangements. I received no further replies. Viator also called them to no avail. At 7am the next morning after waking up I realised they had messaged me just before 1am making alternative pickup arrangements. Naturally, I was asleep and therefore was not able to make the new pick up time at 07:20 from my hotel directly. Whilst I appreciate their efforts, they had 14 days from the time of my booking to notify me and discuss alternative pick up locations/solutions. Telling me 13hrs before the start time with no further communication until the middle of the night is not acceptable. I am now seeking a full refund with Viator for this complete mismanagement and not delivering the tour as advertised. I thought this tour was a bit of a gamble as only 5 reviews spaced out over several years.. now I know why. Arrange a driver with your hotel instead. Cheaper, more convenient and reliable.
There were some logistical difficulties with my booking, due to it being short-notice (5 hours before) and during their offseason (winter). This resulted in my tour guide not showing up on the day of my tour. At first I wondered if this Rara Avis was a scam agency, but I decided to give them a call on WhatsApp to see what happened. They were extremely apologetic and gave me a full refund and offered me a complimentary trip. I didn’t go in looking for any of that, but they were that dedicated to customer service. So I rescheduled my trip for the next day. I was the only tourist, so it was just me and my guide (Dorj) in the van together. He was so knowledgeable, thoughtful, kind, and personable! Honestly, spending the time with him may have been my favorite part of the tour (3hr tour to Chinggis Khaan statue). That’s not to take away from the Statue itself—it was amazing, and a great experience! While there I also got to ride a camel and have an eagle rest on my arm! Advice I would give: Make sure to book a day in advance, at the very least. That is the most fair for Rara Avis, especially during their offseason. Also, make sure to enjoy the time with the guide(s)! They are a wonderful part of the experience you wouldn’t want to miss.
Fantastic guide. Clean car, knowledgeable, flexible and accommodating guide! Red provided the right amount of information without rushing us and allowed us the freedom to wander.
Really great trip. The driver was very knowledgeable about the statue and had plenty of information to share. Shuttle pickup was located at a convenient spot and easy to find. Visiting the statue was a lot of fun.

Highly recommended my tour guide Yogi is probably the most knowledgable tour guide i've had.. He also went out of his way to asssist me with what I need to do in between the tour & looked fter me very well preety much gave me a full introduction on Mongolian history & culture. Overall it was an amazing experience.
I can't recommend this tour company highly enough. The booking process was professional and fuss free. My guide was Tunya, who was really friendly with great local knowledge and interesting insights into the places that we visited and who also happily talked about all aspects of life in Mongolia. It was great having Tunya to explain different aspects at Gandantegchenling Monastery and the Bogd Khan Palace Museum. Definitely made it a more meaningful experience. I also enjoyed having a chance to taste local dairy products at a local market. Lunch was a delicious local soup, Yum! Overall a great day tour that I'd highly recommend.
