Meeting
The gigantic steel equine statue mounted by Genghis Khan himself is the largest statue of an equestrian in the world. This 40 m tall statue is located on a hillside on the bank of the Tuul River in an area called Tsonjin Boldog and connected to capital Ulaanbaatar by 54 km paved road. Tsonjin Boldog was chosen according to the legend that Genghis Khan found a whip in this area. In Mongolia, people believe that man finding a whip is a sign of fortune, good destiny, and occasion. The statue faces east, the direction of Genghis Khan's birthplace, and the sunrise. If you stretch your eyes to the east, you will see a small statue of his mother greeting him.
Explore the breathtaking landscapes of Gorkhi-Terelj Park. We will take a scenic hike to the iconic Turtle Rock, a spectacular natural granite formation, where you can capture amazing photos and enjoy panoramic valley views.
Turtle Rock, ”Melkhii Khad”, is a surprising granitic formation, 24 metres (79 feet) high, whose form reminds of a turtle. Its old name was Mungut Khad. Located at the foothills of a mountain covered of pines, this rocky formation is incontestably a photo opportunity while you’re on the road for Terelj. There, it’s possible to rent horses, and during the summer, you can also find souvenirs’ sellers. It’s a good starting point for a small walk (about one hour) that will lead you until the centre of meditation of Aryaval or in the most remote places of the park. If you move a few kilometres forward on the main road that leads to Terelj Village, you will also be able to see on your right the formation called ”the old man reading”.
t’s located within Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, about 10 kilometres (6,21 miles) from the entrance. From the turtle rock, you can make a pleasant hike (about 45 minutes). Located on the hillside of a mountain covered with larches and granite rock, Aryaval meditation centre will delight the travellers. To reach the temple, you will have to pass a small wooden bridge on which a sign tells: ”the bridge that leads beyond wisdom”. The main temple is dedicated to Kalachakra philosophy, ”wheel of time”. The temple contains a thangka representing the myth of the Shambhala (a thangka is a painting on cotton or silk; Shambhala is, according to Buddhist philosophy, a fabulous place hidden somewhere in Asia), a Kalachakra mandala, and other objects bound to this belief. On the ground floor of this building, you can admire a ”gallery of Buddhist philosophy”, with 220 original paintings of the artist Bayantsagaan representing the different belief and Buddhist philosophy.
Step inside an authentic Mongolian ger (yurt) for an unforgettable cultural culinary experience. You will participate in preparing traditional Mongolian dishes alongside local hosts and enjoy a delicious, authentic lunch in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

just go! so enjoyable -lovely knowledgeable humans taking you around to do some seriously cool things :) i really appreciated their kindness and enthusiasm-thanks again
A must do when in UB with limited days. Great 1 day trip/outing! Very informative, especially at the Ghinggis Khaan statue
The tour I booked on GetYourGuide was canceled on the evening before at 8:50 PM. It was one-sided because I was lied to about an epidemic at the destination. It's malicious because I received an email confirming the entire tour the morning before. And the schedule was thrown off.
Fantastic day! Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of booking. Dead and Baga are brilliant guides - throughly enjoyed the tour, also the meal was gorgeous too.
I'm writing this in Japanese specifically because I really want to recommend it to Japanese people! My first time in Mongolia, and my first solo trip. I wanted to visit the classic tourist spots, so I booked this tour which had many reviews. In conclusion, I'm so glad I chose this tour! However, one thing that concerned me was the means of contact. I was told the hotel pickup was at 8:00, but due to traffic congestion, the actual pickup will be around 9:00. I was waiting at the hotel, feeling a little anxious because I couldn't get in touch with them for a while. I rode in a four-seater car, and the passengers were the guide and one other person. I thought it was a very minimal tour, but when we arrived at the Chinggis Khan statue, we found out that the remaining two cars had also joined, and the tour was about 20 people in total. At the Chinggis Khaan statue and museum, the guides explained things very enthusiastically, and afterward, we were able to move around freely. Having photos taken in traditional ethnic costumes, being held on someone's arm, trying archery, riding a camel... I was able to have so many Mongolian-style experiences just in this area! After that, I had Mongolian dishes such as mutton, yak, chicken, and noodles at a ger restaurant. In the afternoon, we will go to Terelj National Park. I visited Turtle Rock and Ariyaval Temple, and both required more stamina than I expected! Since I'm not very good at heights, I didn't force myself to climb the rock face of Turtle Rock to view the scenery from above, and waited below. I was never pressured to climb. Although the Ariyaval Temple had hills, bridges, and stairs, making it a bit tough, the view from the top was very beautiful. And what was personally good was that there were many participants who were Japanese, and moreover, were traveling alone. I enjoyed the unique encounters that come with tours, where I could chat with people traveling solo to Mongolia and exchange information. Although it was a group tour, there were surprisingly free time periods, so it was easy to enjoy even as a solo traveler. I got caught in a pretty bad traffic jam on the way back, but considering the traffic situation in Mongolia, I guess it can't be helped...! Although I was a little anxious about my first solo trip to Mongolia, it was a very good experience, including not just the sightseeing but also the encounters with many people. Thank you very much! 🇲🇳
Just book this tour! It was a wonderful day full of activities, including photos with an eagle, a camel ride, archery, and a fantastic lunch with local food. Our driver Tean was so funny and shared a lot of interesting facts and stories about Mongolia. The two other guides with the other groups were also very kind and helped all of us. I definitely recommend this tour!
The best 1 day trip with highly knowledgeable and likeable guide/driver/cook/server/comedian/DJ/polyglot, a man of many talents.
The experience is a must-do ! The tour was so smooth with all experiences taken care of . Our guide for the day was a young, 2 years-experience Mongolian student but armed with great knowledge and a wonderful demeanor, also a special mention to the driver, Mr. Bagan, who is a very entertaining character ! Both spoke good English and clearly enjoy their job. I did read some of the reviewers who were unhappy with their transportation, calling it an old and uncomfortable car. Well, while it’s true it is not a new or modern van, I found it spacious, quite comfortable and did its job very well. They even carry fold-up chair for us to relax like a picnic tour . The experience is as advertised and really fun but also provide us a lot of information about the history and culture of Mongolia ! Really love this tour and recommend to everyone who are spending time in Ulaanbaatar !
Wonderful tour, covering the key sightseeing spots around Ulaan-Baatar with excellent service by both driver and the tour guide, Djeng (George). The latter was very knowledgable, passionate and enthusiastic, his charm added to the overall experience.
