Glad we went
Great place for a fun, short, and affordable outing. We took a quick cab ride from the cruise port and bought tickets at the door for the 10AM tour. The place was totally empty, so it was a private tour. Our guide Angel was super friendly and did a great job. He said the big cruise ship tours would be coming later in the day, so I suggest going in the morning for a quieter experience. Gift shop was great (free chocolate samples) and they have a small bar for drinks. We spent about 1.5 here and really enjoyed it.

A fun stop going around the island of Cozumel
This is a fun, interesting, and educational tour. It’s not really about how chocolate as we know it, is made, but how the Mayans regarded it and how they made the chocolate they used. Our guide, Paty, was delightful. The only pressure we felt was the need to tip all the people involved in the different parts of the tour.
Operator response
We're sorry to hear you felt that way about tipping.
We'll look into that.

Cacao history and tasting
I had a great experience learning about Mexican Cacao history. I was fortunate to have a 1-1 tour with Paty, who did a great job telling me about the history of cacao and also made some Mayan chocolate.

Lovely review for Paty, thanks!

Great Tour. Outstanding Chocolate.
What a wonderful experience that we did not anticipate! Eduardo gave us a most interesting tour of the chocolate-making process and we learned so much. The chocolate produced by this company is simply some of the finest I have sampled. If you visit, you must purchase more than you can carry because all of their delicious bars are sold-out online. When you're in Cozumel, be sure to visit this place -- it will surely be a highlight of your trip.

Magnificent Mayan Cacao Company
We recently visited the Mayan Cacao Company. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. After a brief introduction to the company in a shaded courtyard, we were given an introduction into the ancient Mayan cacao making rituals. It was informative and entertaining! Angel made us feel very welcome.
The Dia De Los Muertos altar was beautiful, and the role cacao plays in honoring the dead was very interesting.
Our larger group split into two groups, and we went to a preparation area where Eduardo demonstrated making cacao, it really is quite simple! We got to sample the cocoa he was making, and it was delicious!
We purchased some delicious chocolate in the gift shop, which had a great variety to offer.
We definitely recommend the experience. Next time we may do the longer experience, and actually make cocoa ourselves.

Worthwhile tour in a beautiful, natural setting.
The tour we booked was general admission, so we waited about 10 minutes for some additional people to join. Paty was an excellent guide who shared the history of the Mayan chocolate making process and importance with us. Delicious samples made the experience even more fun! It was about an hour for the total experience. Highly recommend! Bring a small cooler if you are not heading back to a space where you can keep the chocolate bars that you buy.
Operator response
Paty is one of the best, you're lucky to have her as your guide. Thanks for the review!

Chocolate
This was part of a cruise tour. The tour was well-organized. They showed us the process, gave us samples, and we ended up in the gift shop. We found it interesting and worthwhile.

Went on a whim and glad we did
It was a lovely time, informative and interesting. Our daughter compared it to a field trip. Our guide Angel was so kind. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a something to do that isn’t a multi hour experience.

Angel is great with kids, thanks for sharing!

Dairy-Free Yumminess
The mayan cocoa company was a great experience!! The museum smells like chocolate from the get-go, and Paty did an AMAZING job explaining how Mayans used to make chocolate by hand. As an individual with a dairy allergy, being able to have the chocolate was an added bonus!! Maria served us mole on a fresh tortilla which was also delicious. We were allowed to try 3 samples of chocolate when everything was said and done, and it was all delicious!

To see by the way
This is interesting from a historical point of view in relation to Mayan culture, but it does not show cocoa plantation or real chocolate making.
Operator response
Je suis désolé que nous n'ayons pas répondu à vos attentes ; la visite n'est pas présentée comme une plantation de cacao.
