Explore some of Charleston's enchanting alleyways and historic sites on this small group, 2-hour walking tour. With our small group tours, you are guaranteed a more intimate and up-close experience. Charleston's alleyways are fortunately located within the popular historic district which allows us to include some well known points of interest and go a little "off the beaten path” while exploring the history and beauty of Charleston's enchanting alleyways. Generally, we include between four to six different alleyways/passages as well as popular points of interest like Rainbow Row and of course, tons of history! These pedestrian passageways are often overlooked, but walking along these cobbled paths is an opportunity to appreciate Charleston's rich history and hidden, more intimate charms.
The tour will begin from the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon. Please note that we do not go inside the building.
We will explore between 4 to 6 alleyways as well as popular points of interest, some of which are located in the residential parts of the historic district we call "South of Broad".
Rainbow Row is just one of many stops in the "South of Broad" area. Please note that we do not go in to any buildings on our tours.
We will explore several points of interest throughout the historic district including 4 to 6 alleyways, some of which are located in the French Quarter area.
Philadelphia Alley is just one of several possible alleyways that will be explored. Please note that the stops along the tour vary per guide. Generally, you can expect to visit 4 to 6 different alleyways or lanes.
It was so interesting and beautiful. Our guide was great
Very informative and beautiful walking tour! This city has so much history and beauty. Duggar was excellent and entertaining!!! He's very passionate about his job and did a wonderful job explaining the city's history. Highly recommend!
I’ve never done a guided tour before, even though I travel quite a bit, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I did this tour solo, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. The guide was fantastic knowledgeable, engaging, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. I enjoyed it so much that I’ll definitely be doing guided tours again in every city I visit in the future. Highly recommend
The walking tour was absolutely wonderful. Mark was an exceptional guide….friendly, personable, and full of information on the history of Charleston and its culture. All 4 of us in our group highly recommend this tour!
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Provided fun facts along with historical information. Highly recommended.
The Historical Back Alley tour was a great way to see behind the scene places. Our guide Duggar was great - knowledgeable about the history, a fun guide, and loved the stories .
Great pace. Great stories of history and Charleston. Well versed in Charleston history. Likes the Dock theater. Nice break from the heat.
Id you only take one tour in Charleston, take this one and, if you’re lucky, you’ll get David as your guide for this wonderful walking tour throughout some of Charleston’s hidden alleys. He was outstanding in every sense of the word. As a native born Charlestonian he knew the history well and had a great gift of storytelling to boot. We took this tour on our 56th wedding anniversary and David recommended a wonderful spot for lunch right on the Cooper river. All in all, a fabulous experience.
Sam was an excellent guide and we thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with her. We got to see parts of downtown Charleston that we hadn’t seen before. She also made sure to ask if we were all okay since it was very hot and humid that day which I appreciated.
The information was very interesting to show the significance Charleston has had in history in the US. The guide today was Evan Byrd. His passion and stories were so interesting. The storytelling was spellbinding. Don't miss the opportunity and walk away with a feel of the times and where we are in the present. Great way to connect to this city
