Escape the hustle and bustle of Dublin City for one day as we take you on a private whiskey adventure to the midlands of Ireland, to the real Irish countryside. As you cruise through rural Ireland, enjoy the lively commentary from your Whiskey Specialist Host. First stop is Old Kilbeggan Distillery, one of Ireland’s oldest distilleries which is still producing their world famous Kilbeggan whiskey. We like to travel the secondary routes, avoiding motorways. Next, we stop in Athlone. Some free time included, we'll make sure you have good recommendations for lunch. Athlone is home to Ireland's oldest pub - Sean's. We'll regroup here after lunch for a visit. Next , we travel not far to Tullamore, home to the world's second biggest Irish whiskey brand. The Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery Experience Tour is an unforgettable visit for whiskey fans. It's an access all areas tour with lots of great surprises along the way. We'll have you back in Dublin at 6.30pm
Without doubt one of the most special distillery experiences in Ireland. A time capsule! A visit to the original distillery is a most memorable experience, and then you will be treated to a walk through the micro-distillery which is only operational since 2007, but feels like it has been operational for much longer! On arrival , you will enjoy a flavoursome Kilbeggan Cocktail and at the end of the tour, you will also enjoy a tasting of 4 whiskeys from the Kilbeggan portfolio , which include; The Tyrconnell (a must for single malt fans) and you will also try our most famous expression of peated Irish - Connemara! Time for shopping is included, before we depart for Athlone.
After having had some free time for lunch / exploring Athlone, we regroup at Sean's Bar - the oldest pub in Ireland, in Europe, and maybe the world! Your Host will escort you on a visit to this famous pub, pointing out all that you should see, including the letter from the Guinness Book of Records confirming Sean's as the oldest pub. Sean's opened in 900 AD, by who ? Why? All will be explained over a nice creamy pint , or why not try some of Sean's Blended or Single Malt Whiskey!
This is most definitely one of the superior distillery tours in the country. They have thought of everything on this visit to the home of the number 2 Irish whiskey globally! The experience starts with an Irish Coffee demo and sampling, followed by a guided tour through the state-of-the-art whiskey distillery. The visit to one of the Tullamore warehouses is just incredibly special, you'll enjoy some cask strength single pot still Tullamore whiskey straight from the cask, followed by a tutored tasting of three Tullamore whiskeys. Time for shopping before return transfer to Dublin.

Cecilia and Ray were so hospitable. We really enjoyed the tour and learned so much.
John picked us up at our hotel and spent the day taking us to the Midlands, so it was nice to get out of the city and into the heart of the country. This tour is great because he has you visit both the old places (Kilbeggan, with it's 18th Century distillery of huge stones and waterwheel that you have to squeeze around) and the new (Tullamore D.E.W., which just opened their new site a couple years ago, and is beautiful fresh wood and stainless steel). You learn a lot, have great tastings, and get to stop for a flight at Sean Bar, the older still-extant bar in the world. A great day, and John is a fantastic host.
Dear Jerry, thank you so much ! It was so great to see you a few weeks back, always a pleasure. Thanks for looking me up again! Hope all is well and catch up soon. Best wishes, John
Our experience was beyond what I thought we were going to get. We decided to come to Ireland for our honeymoon and this was a perfect full day of "slow tourism". We've been to a few single distillery tours in the past, but never with a guide like this. John was phenomenal. We asked all sorts of questions about what to do in the area, and Irish history and language, not just whiskey but he is so knowledgeable about all things whiskey too. We had so much fun and felt it was truly worth the money. We had found him online on a whim and I'm so glad we did. If you're thinking about booking this tour, definitely do it. A full day of whiskey tasting and great conversation, an experience we will never forget.
Dear Madison. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review! It was so lovely meeting you and Bradley, I hope you both had a great honeymoon in Ireland and the driving went smoothly! Thank you again and very best wishes to you both. John
Hi John , just wanted to thank you again for taking such good care of me and my father in law yesterday- it was honestly a trip highlight . It is clear that you love your whiskey , but also your country and its history ! Be well , Josh
Dear Josh, thank you very much for your very kind review! It was a pleasure having you on tour. Best to Howard. Kind regards, John
My friend and I had the pleasure of doing a few hour private tour of Tullamore. It was our tour guide who made this a highlight of our trip. Frankie not only was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the brand, the factory itself but his lively personality and true joy of his job enhanced every aspect of this tour. He was engaging, funny and a pleasure to spend time with. I have done a fair amount of tours like this and wish i had a guide like this each time. If you book this and can specifically request him we would recommend that you do so! Separately the tour is interesting, the plant and facilities immaculate and the whiskey was pretty darn good :).
Thank you! Thank you - you have mailed a company who includes Tullamore on their itinerary. I'll pass your message to Frankie!
We so enjoyed our private whiskey tour to celebrate my husband's 45th birthday. The extra attention and personalized experience capped off our trip to Ireland perfectly. We loved the compare and contrast of the different distillery we visited. Tullamore was the highlight of the day with the awesome intimate group that we toured the facility with and the tour guide being so fun and entertaining...along with the absolute awesome whiskey tastings. My favorite whiskey though was from Sean's Bar. What a treat to get to experience that legendary location. Kilbeggan had so much history and was the perfect start to the day's adventures. I would highly recommend this tour or any tours by Whiskey Island!! We had such a wonderful day and would encourage all to go ahead and schedule your tour! The process and service was so nice and easy and comfortable!! And the conversations with John throughout the day left us highly entertained. John truly does love his job, country and whiskey! Thank you again!!
Dear Erin. Wow - what a great review! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and great review. It is much appreciated. It was really great meeting you and Jason, hope you're both keeping well. Thanks again, John
We thoroughly enjoyed our whiskey tour with John. Our focus originally had been to tour Tullamore Dew since we are from San Francisco and use that whiskey to make our Irish coffees after having many from the famous Buena Vista Cafe; however we enjoyed the juxtaposition of touring a very old distillery (Kilbeggan) with a much more modern (Tullamore Dew). Visiting Sean’s Bar was a treat and we had a very enjoyable lunch on our own in Athlone that John had recommended. The pacing of the tour was excellent and John provided the perfect balance of historical commentary when driving and leaving us time on the individual tours. Would highly recommend!
Hi Mary, thank you so much for this fantastic review! It was so great meeting you and Pat. I hope you had a great overall Irish adventure, and you've many fond memories. Again, thank you so much, that's a great summary of what this tour is all about! Best wishes, John
John with Whiskey Island is the best tour guide! We had an amazing day out in the Irish countryside with a very kind and knowledgeable host. Three delicious whiskey tastings and a great lunch & good company. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to explore Ireland for the first time. Pickup was super smooth and the day never felt rushed. We'll definitely be back next trip. Thanks for a great day!
Hi Paul and Kacie! I think you're coming to the end of your trip today :( I hope it's been great! Thank you for this wonderful review! It was so great meeting you both Have a great last night in Ireland, and safe travels home! Best wishes John
We did several distillery visits with Irish Whiskey Tours & Tastings, and we found John to be helpful, knowledgeable, and a real professional. If you're looking to visit several Irish distillers and need someone to help you put your group tour together, he's the best in the business!
Dear Chip. Wow- what a great review! And if there was a TripAdvisor that reviewed customers , you'd get a similar review from me :) . It's been an absolute joy working with you Chip, from your very first enquiry last October, all the way through. You've been so pleasant to deal with, and I really appreciate the comments in your review. Keep in touch, and see you again in the future hopefully. Best wishes, John
Warmth, wisdom, wit, and of course whiskey! If you are looking for a tour leader who can provide all these, this is the right place. John's knowledge of the distillers and their whiskeys is unsurpassed, and you will come away from the experience certain that you have a new good friend. Highly recommended!
Hi Erich, that is a wonderful and much appreciated review Erich, thank you so much. It was brilliant meeting you Erich, I hope you have settled back in well in at home. Thanks again and best wishes, John
