Although the excavation of Pompeii began over 250 years ago in 1748, only 45 ha or 111 acres (approx.) of the 66 ha or 160 acres (approx.) have been excavated. During a 2-hour tour private guided tour, your guide will describe the devastation that occurred in 79 A.D. when Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered this thriving empire in 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone.
