Itinerary

60 min

Conor Pass rises 456 feet vertically from the sea, to serve as a passageway between the Sliabh Mish Range and Mount Brandon. It is Ireland's highest mountain road. This winding, alpine route offers breathtaking views for those brave enough to travel the precipitous road where Blackface Mountain sheep are more abundant than cars. The pass's summit offers breathtaking views of Brandon Bay to the north and Dingle Bay to the south. As we move on, the landscape transitions to a deep glacial cirque, dotted with magnificent alpine lakes and waterfalls. Many travellers skip this route because it is difficult, but with Mossie's Tours, you are free to sit back and enjoy the view.

120 min

Where the Dingle Peninsula meets the Atlantic Ocean, the Slea Head Drive winds and turns along the rocky shoreline. This 30 km (18m) stretch of the well-known Wild Atlantic Way has been hailed by National Geographic as one of the world's most picturesque locations. Sit back and let our skilled drivers take you along this breathtaking journey as you discover well-known sites like Ventry Beach, ancient ringforts, and beehive huts along with breath-taking vistas of the Blaskets and Skellig Islands. Even Hollywood could not withstand Slea Head's allure. Some of Hollywood's finest epic movies, such as Ryan's Daughter, Far and Away, and Star Wars, have used this region as their setting. Use Mossie's Tours to discover the ethereal beauty.

Admission not included45 min

One of the most curious features of the Dingle Peninsula are the Fahan Beehive Huts. These drystone corbelled Iron Age huts derive their name from the unique shape of the building. The Fahan group are comprised of 19 subterranean and 18 standing clochans (beehive huts). Our guides will lead you through the inscribed stones, sculptured crosses, and earth ring forts. If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear our ancestors’ songs carried in the wind. And maybe if you are lucky, you can hold a baby lamb.

20 min

Local fisherman would bring their currach boats onto the rocks at Coumeenole's modest tidepool beach before climbing the incline to the dwellings beyond. That is, until 1968, when construction on the sets for Ryan's Daughter, the epic film by David Lean, started. To accommodate the camera, sound, and other filmmaking equipment, the lengthy boat ramp was enlarged and paved. Those improvements are still present today.

45 min

We will take a short break to stretch our legs before making the easy climb to Dunmore Head's summit, one of Europe's most westerly points. A lone Ogham stone, a relic from our distant past, watches over the sea from that location like a sentinel. Take a deep breath and look down at the spot where the Santa Maria de la Rosa and San Juan, two Spanish Armada ships, drowned in 1588. Possibly a pod of dolphins will surface while you are looking and poke their heads above the water.

30 min

Kilmalkedar is an early Norman ecclesiastical site and National Monument. The surviving church building was constructed in the mid-12th century and then extended around 1200AD. The grounds include the corbelled Hiberno-Romanesque church building, an alphabet stone, an ancient sundial, bullauns, and a Promise stone. Experience this amazing historical site with our knowledgeable guides so as not to miss a thing.

What an interesting and informative day!

We spent a delightful day driving around Dingle with Helen of Mossie’s tours. She was so knowledgeable and personable, making the day quite enjoyable. There are many picturesque sights, as well as historical highlights, such as standing stones and beehive huts. The Slea Head Drive and the Gallarus Oratory, a 7th Century monastic site were favorites. The Blasket Island Center was so well done, and a great spot for lunch.

Exceptional Tour of the Dingle Peninsula!

Helen guided my husband Steve and me on an incredible daylong tour of the Dingle Peninsula. Her knowledge of the landscape, its history and lore are far-reaching and her telling of it enchanting! She was generous with her time, and made us feel comfortable and welcome. She customized the tour in ways that were responsive to our special interests. In addition to all that, she made certain to help us capture great photos together in stunning locations. We can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our tour and time with Helen! We highly recommend booking a tour with Mossie’s Tours!

Best Memory from Dingle

Our tour with Mossie was the highlight of our trip! We were all educated and entertained (ages 14-56)! The thoughtfulness and personal touches Mossie built in to our adventure made the experience extra special. Between identifying “the best” hot chocolate in Dingle, to having a laugh as a new member of our family, our day was unforgettable. Just when you thought you heard the best Mossie story of the day….he would tell you another. He was flexible, creative, adventuresome, and caring. Do. Not. Miss.

Great Tour!

Mossie was our guide for a full-day tour of the Dingle Peninsula, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. His knowledge of Irish history is second to none, and his passion for sharing it made the tour both informative and enjoyable. He was also incredibly flexible and willing to customize the day based on our interests, which made the experience even more special. We never felt rushed and were able to spend extra time at the places that interested us most. We highly recommend Mossie to anyone looking to explore the Dingle Peninsula.

The best. Bar none.

It pains me to have to admit that I’ve waited a year to write this review. Mossie deserves so much better. This was, without a doubt, one of the best and most enchanting days of our lives. The weather was so foul, but none of it mattered. Mossie opened our eyes to the beauty of it all and our minds to the historical context of it all. He is a treasure and a joy to spend time with. We’re already talking about returning and coaxing him into doing a full week around the country tour. I’ve told everyone who asks: if you’re going to Dingle, seek out no one else. It doesn’t get any better.

Tour of a lifetime

It’s not an exaggeration to say that this incredible day we spent with Mossie was THE HIGHLIGHT of our entire wonderful week in Ireland. He took us to hidden gems we never would have had been able to see without him. His wealth of knowledge was only matched by his sense of humor and the passion he shares with his guests. We were entertained, fascinated, touched, and amazed by the experiences he related, the places he took us, and the scenery around us. His own memories lent a personal touch that we treasured and will never forget. Please be sure you include Mossie’s Tours in your trip to Ireland. There simply is no one better. Chef’s kiss.

Highlight of our trip!

The highlight of our wonderful trip to Ireland! Mossie knows everything about the area (geographically, historically, etc) and is very engaging and a great storyteller. Make sure he tells you about his own upbringing on a farm in the area. An extra kindness: I realized about an hour after our tour ended that I had left a shirt in the van. Mossie was kind enough to deliver it to us at the pub where we were having post-tour pints!

Wonderful day trip in the Dingle Peninsula Gaeltacht

My wife, daughter, and I did a full day trip with Helen as our guide on the Dingle Peninsula this past July. Helen was a fabulous guide. She is a safe, concientious driver and she kindly picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Brandon. We wanted to see the captivating views on the coast, walk on a beach, and see some historical and archaeological sites, as well as visit the Blasket Centre museum, and we got to do all of that. Helen thoughtfully helped us decide what exactly to do and she was full of interesting information and stories. She was the perfect guide for us. Helen was very good with our daughter, who is 11 years old and loves animals, and helped us ensure that she had a good trip full of interesting adventures. The weather was cloudy and misty with some rain but that was what we were expecting and Helen took us to a sandy beach for a nice stroll during one of the relative dry periods of the day. My family and I are Americans who are proud of our Irish heritage and I'm grateful that Helen taught us so much about this part of Ireland and its natural environment, vibrant Gaeltacht culture, and long history, including how its people were affected by the Great Famine. I highly recommend Helen as a guide for anyone who is interested in a deep, immersive type of experience. I am fluent in Irish and I greatly enjoyed chatting as Gaeilge with Helen, who is a native Irish speaker from this area and a gifted conversationalist in Irish and English. To spend a day exploring this magnificent corner of the world with a kind, erudite local guide such as Helen was a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience for my family and I but we are planning on doing it again the next time we visit Ireland.
