This has been one of the few trips for which I can say I got what I paid for and more. There was a whole lot to see. The minivan we journeyed in was such that you could take nice pictures of the scenery from wherever you sat. We had ample stops along the way for lunch, pictures, and bathroom breaks. And our guide, John from Mountain Goat, was personable — asides the view, his knowledge and warmth made the day truly worthwhile. I had such a lovely experience I have recommended it to friends already.
We visited from York on Saturday 1st August 2026. The tour was very interesting. The first main stop was at Thirsk, an attractive small town and the location of the veterinary surgery where Alf and Siegfried (the real life James and Siegfried) practised. The museum was set out as it was depicted in the books and on the television. Also included was a section on the filming of the series. We could also see the church where Alf and Joan (Helen) were married. The second main stop was at Grassington, which was recreated as Darrowby. There were other short stops along the way. The driver/ tour guide was amazing, as he provided us with a comprehensive commentary on all of the locations we visited plus other interesting facts about the area as he drove us smoothly across the ruggedly beautiful Dales - many thanks to him for a wonderful day. We would highly recommend this tour.
This tour is well worth your time and money if you are an All Creatures Great & Small fan! From the moment we got onto the bus until the end it was a fantastic tour all round. John our tour guide and driver, was so engaging and passionate about the history of Yorkshire, York and everything to do with 'All Creatures Great and Small'. His knowledge was amazing, being able to remember all the historical dates was a feet in itself. We learnt so much during the day, from learning about the real James Herriot (Alf Wight) to visiting Thirsk (where Alf practiced), from eating lunch at The Devonshire (the “Drovers Arms”) to sampling cheese at the Wensleydale Creamery. We even had a quiz at the end of the day which John kindly bought the prize out of his own pocket (a chocolate orange). If you get John as your tour guide, you will find out the relevance of the chocolate orange. The tour through the beautiful hills and Yorkshire dales also took us past the original house used in the 1st series. John was the best guide you could wish for, he would answer any questions you had. A true credit to the tour operator. We certainly would highly recommend this tour!!!
Excellent tour. Guide Bob was extremely knowledgeable and gave us loads of insights into Yorkshire Dale life. It was fab to see the All Creatures Museum and filming spots. Absolutely loved it!
Views of Yorkshire Dales spectacular. Stops well planned although a little rushed. Particularly the Darrowby location. It would've been nice to have had longer time there as the small independent shops and cafes which are all tourist dependant are simply gorgeous. The ride itself was a tad too fast and bumpy. Our driver and guide Ben was clearly confident as knew the road well, but as we'd only just met, he needed to build our confidence in him. I would definitely still recommend the trip as its great value and in good weather as said spectacular. Just been prepared if you're not a great coach traveller.
The tour was really good, we thoroughly enjoyed joyed the experience. Our tour guide Barry was great with all knowledge and kept us entertained all throughout our trip. The admission fee for this was well worth the money ! It was a full itinerary but completely enjoyed every minute, the length of visit was well done, great atmosphere among the group. Best for most people if you enjoy the television experience. Definitely recommend 👌
