From Catania: Private/Guided Godfather with Appetizer and Pasta

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Godfather Tour with Omar – A Must-Do in Sicily! If you’re a fan of The Godfather, this tour is an absolute must. Omar was an exceptional guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about both Sicilian history and the films. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized. We arrived in Catania on a cruise ship, and Omar met us at a small café right outside the port. A very important tip for future cruise passengers: while your phone is still connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi network or you’re still out on the water, your GPS can give completely incorrect directions. Omar sent us a WhatsApp confirmation the day before, and on the morning of the tour he sent a WhatsApp location pin 📍, which made finding the meeting point incredibly easy. The café was only about a 3-minute walk from the cruise terminal. We visited the beautiful medieval villages of Savoca and Forza d’Agrò, where many of the iconic scenes from The Godfather were filmed. One of the highlights was stopping at the famous Bar Vitelli, where Michael Corleone asked Apollonia’s father for permission to marry his daughter. We even had time to enjoy a delicious snack at Bar Vitelli. Please note that the food and drinks at Bar Vitelli are not included in the tour, but we wanted to try them, and they were well worth it. It was a great way to experience the authentic atmosphere of the bar while tasting local Sicilian specialties. Omar also gave us plenty of free time to browse the local shops and purchase souvenirs without ever feeling rushed. The included lunch is served later at Ristorante GELSO Nero, and it was another highlight of the day. The restaurant sits in the hills with incredible panoramic views, making lunch there an experience in itself. It’s a small, cozy local Sicilian restaurant, but don’t let its size fool you—the quality of the food is outstanding. The meal began with a traditional Sicilian antipasto featuring a selection of prosciutto, salami, local cheese, bruschetta, and delicious breaded eggplant, which was exceptionally good. The main course was Pasta alla Norma, one of Sicily’s signature dishes, prepared with rich tomato sauce, eggplant, and local cheese. The pasta sauce was absolutely incredible, and you could immediately tell the tomatoes were of the highest quality. Dessert followed—I can’t remember the exact name, but I believe it was a refreshing lemon sorbet—followed by a traditional Italian espresso, one glass of excellent local wine, and water. Every course was fresh, authentic, and beautifully prepared. The staff was incredibly welcoming, especially with our children, and the service was outstanding. At no point did we feel rushed—they genuinely wanted us to relax, enjoy the food, and take in the beautiful scenery. Lunch at Ristorante GELSO Nero is simply to die for. I honestly have no complaints whatsoever about the meal—it exceeded our expectations and was one of the best dining experiences of our entire Mediterranean cruise. Another unforgettable stop was the church where Michael and Apollonia were married, followed by the church steps and square connected to young Vito Corleone’s story in The Godfather Part II. Omar explained the emotional opening sequence where Vito’s mother begged Don Ciccio to spare her young son after Don Ciccio had already murdered Vito’s father and older brother. When Don Ciccio refused, she sacrificed her own life in a final attempt to save Vito, allowing the young boy to escape hidden in a basket on the back of a donkey before eventually making his way to America. Standing in the actual filming locations while hearing the story made the movie come alive. The scenery throughout the tour was breathtaking, with spectacular views of the Ionian coastline, charming stone streets, historic churches, and the timeless atmosphere of rural Sicily. What impressed us the most was Omar himself. He truly went out of his way to make us feel welcome, made sure we saw every location from the best viewpoints, and ensured we never felt rushed. Throughout the day, we always felt like his priority. We were traveling with two children, and we felt completely safe everywhere we went. Omar drove carefully, was professional at all times, and made the entire experience comfortable and enjoyable for our family. His vehicle is not a van, but an extremely spacious station wagon that was very comfortable for our family of four, with plenty of room for everyone and our belongings. This was easily one of the highlights of our Mediterranean cruise. Whether you’re a lifelong The Godfather fan or simply want to experience authentic Sicily beyond the cruise port, I highly recommend booking this tour with Omar. The tour was exceptionally well organized, relaxing, educational, and packed with incredible scenery, movie history, authentic Sicilian culture, outstanding food, and genuine hospitality. Bruno took us to a beautiful hilltop town that big tour buses would never reach—one of the highlights of our trip. Maurizio was fantastic! This was definitely a great Godfather tour but it was an even better tour of Sicily—we learned a lot about the region and the culture and he asked us a lot about ours as well. It felt more like a cultural exchange opportunity which was a pleasant surprise. Of course he knew a lot about the Godfather and filming locations but we expected that. We really recommend Maurizio and this private tour — it was so nice not to be on a group tour for a change. Definitely worth the price — lunch was fantastic!

Maurizio my guide immediately met me as i disembarked the cruise ship at Catanya port and went on our Godfather tour to Savoca and Forza d`Agro. Maurizio was very knowledgeable about the details of The Godfather movies and provided a wealth of cultural, historical and movie setting facts and information and made it a very enjoyable tour and i was able to see small surrounding towns and enjoyed every minute. I always loved the movie, but this tour shows a side of Sicily i would have missed if we hadn’t done it. The views, the location of the villages, the back story for the location and the history of the people, it was all wonderful. Maurizio loves his job and it shows in all the things he does for his clients and he was very patient and helped me to take many nice pictures and video shots, he also gave me some free time to do some shopping besides the famous Bar Vitelly - the famous cafe from the movie and was waiting me at the car with the air conditioning on. Lunch was delicious with Sicilian homemade pasta (alla norma with ricotta cheese) in locally family business restaurant in open-air dining balcony with spectacular views of the hills and ocean below. it was well worth the time and money, I would highly recommend this tour.
