Soak in the rich heritage of a neighborhood described by historian William Dalrymple as a ‘small chunk of Portugal washed up on the shores of the Indian Ocean’, and interact with locals who strive to keep centuries of culture alive to this day. Discover the untold history of the city of Panjim at Tobacco Square, and hear intriguing tales of the neighborhood's former colonial Portuguese residents. Be transported to a bygone era as we explore painstakingly preserved heritage buildings that have survived the onslaught of development in the 21st century. The quaint streets are lined with traditional Portuguese style homes in a palette of striking bright colors, making this every photographer’s paradise. Visit Panjim’s oldest bakery and have a taste of their traditional Goan treats with a refreshing beverage (subject to the bakery’s operational days & timings). Meet with a renowned local Goan musician and enjoy a live performance of his distinctive blend of Konkani and Latin styles.

Fontainhas is not only the oldest but the largest Latin quarter of Asia. Located at the foot of the hills, Altinho hills with springs surround Fontainhas on the west side, which give it its name from Portuguese for “little fountain”. Witness the Portuguese past that eventually survived the onslaught of development in the 21st century. The houses are dressed in yellow, green and blue, balconies fronted by wrought iron railings and tiled roofs transporting you to another era.

Wonderful experience with Divya. Great communication, super well-curated tour, felt like walking with a knowledgeable friend.
Truly one of my favourite travel experience ever. Met the nicest people, tried some tasty delicacies, got a performance by a legend. And all of this could not have been possible without the most fun and knowledgable guide, Yashvi :) Super grateful!
An entirely fresh experience. Very good learning experience.
I had a wonderful experience on the Fontainhas Heritage Walk with Rachana from Make It Happen. Rachana is an exceptional storyteller. She brought the history of Fontainhas to life through fascinating stories, while also explaining the architecture, Goan culture, traditions, and Portuguese heritage in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. It never felt like a history lecture—it felt like walking through a living museum with someone who genuinely loves and understands the place. She was knowledgeable, patient, and happy to answer every question along the way. The pace of the walk was perfect, and I came away with a much deeper appreciation for Goa beyond its beaches. If you’re visiting Goa and want to experience its rich history and culture, I highly recommend taking this walk with Rachana. It was one of the most memorable parts of my trip, and I would happily do another heritage walk with her in the future.
Alita was a great guide. Very knowledgeable, personable, some surprises on the tour and well worth the money. Highly recommend when in Goa.
I had one of the best experiences in Goa! The tour gave me fascinating insights into the history of Fontainhas, and I was amazed by the many interesting facts I learned along the way. Yashasvi, our storyteller, was excellent—her engaging storytelling and impressive knowledge of the area made the experience truly memorable. She kept surprising us with fascinating historical details, and I genuinely cherish the knowledge and stories she shared. I’m very grateful for this wonderful opportunity. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to discover the history and culture of Fontainhas.
Easy booking experience on their website. Wonderful tour, Alita is so knowledgeable and a great storyteller about the area and history. I feel so much more connected to the place and I really enjoyed the variety of things Alita showed us. So interesting!! I’ll book another tour for sure.
I enjoyed my heritage walk with Rachana through Panjim’s Latin Quarter including Fontainhas. She has a breadth of knowledge and shares it generously, covering history and architecture to food, local families and the many other subjects that come up along the way. The tour started promptly and Rachana was thoughtful throughout, ensuring we stopped in the shade while she explained the history and significance of what we were seeing. Her master’s degree in geology added an unexpected dimension to the tour. I enjoyed learning about Goa’s geology and the fact that some of the oldest rocks in India are found in the state. Rachana is knowledgeable, engaging and passionate about Goa. An excellent way to experience the area and understand much more of its history and character.
Best experience and detail explanation by Yashasvi. Loved the walk.🥰🥰🥰
I have been on walking tours in several cities around the world and this is the one that I enjoyed the most. Our guide, Alita, was a veritable fount of knowledge about Goa’s history and culture, particularly about Fontainhas, the Portuguese area we were walking through. She enlivened the walk with historical insights, local anecdotes and humorous tales. We sampled some sweet delicacies at an old neighborhood bakery and had a refreshing kokum drink. There was a very special surprise at the end of the walk (which I won’t spoil by describing). Overall, it was a great way to spend the morning and I recommend it with the greatest enthusiasm.
