Get insights about the history of Goa dating back to the era of empires and dynasties This tour highlights the kaleidoscope of history to be found in the hinterland of South Goa. Immerse yourself in pre-Portuguese history dating back over 1000 years, when Chandor then known as Chandrapur was a buzzing trade center. The experience begins at the Church of Nossa Senhora de Belem in Chandor and then leads into sites and ruins of historical importance that date back over 1000 years, followed by the scenic view of the Kushavati River. We visit two heritage houses that predates the Portuguese era and contains interesting artifacts which highlight Kadamba era. Please note that this is not a walking trail and guests need to have transportation for this trail.

Itinerary
This experience starts from the Church of Nossa Senhora de Belem in Chandor. This is not a walking trail and guests need transportation during this trail. When built originally in the 17th century, it was called Our Lady of Remedies. However, after it was reconstructed following a collapse in the mid 20th century, it was renamed to its current title. The Church of Nossa Senhora de Belém is located at the main intersection of the town and just across the Braganza House building.
Menezes Braganza House
Located in Chandor Village, Braganza House was first built in the late 16th Century and rebuilt tot the present state in the 18th century. This huge house is situated on one side of the village square. It has now separate houses, with a common entrance. The artefacts collected by the family over a number of years, have added to the beauty of the house.
The chapel is situated on a small hillock about 500mts on the front side of the church. It was built by Francisco Fernandes on 3rd July, 1748. It was rebuilt in 1758 and established on 14th March, 1760.

Highly recommended informative tour
The make it happen chandor Heritage trail is a really informative and exclusive experience. Our guide / story teller Mr. Pawan was very friendly, informative and engaging with the trail. He has good knowledge of not just the local history and history of chandor but connects it with greater pre European history and also recommends good local food and places. Insightful Offbeat Heritage Trail
The Chandor Heritage Trail conducted by Veda was a delightful experience for us. This was our fourth trail with Make It Happen and we enjoyed it. We got to experience the interiors of beautiful heritage homes and the artefacts in them. Veda gave us interesting insights on the history, culture and relevance of the different aspects of Chandor. Highly recommended for a peaceful offbeat experience in South Goa.

This trail takes you back in 9-10th century era...
We had an amazing experience with Alita. Her storytelling really took us back in the Pre- Portuguese era... We visited 2 big Palacial mansions (Menezes Braganza house; Sarah Fernandes House), its just beautiful....from interesting artifacts from all across the world to big big ballrooms.... More than anything, Alita did an amazing job...Keep book Chandor heritage trail by Make it Happen and do ask for Alita as your storyteller...🤌

Chandor Heritage Walk, South Goa
I went for the Chandor Heritage Walk with my storyteller Alita, who had a vast knowledge about the history of the Chandor, Goa and it’s culture. But what I loved the most was her ability to patiently answer all my questions which were honestly a lot. She was very warm and always kept us engaged making the whole walk worth it. Would definitely recommend doing this walk if you are in South Goa.

Tales of Chandor
We went to Chandor to visit the old portuguese houses with Pawan. He took us back in time with his story telling. The whole tour is beautifully planned with houses, chapels, ruins and other pitstops. We had great conversations with Pawan and it is probably a great way to look at Goa from the current generation's curiosity and perspective! Overall the event was also well coordinated since it got rescheduled with enough information ahead of time. We are thankful to Pawan to have been well acquainted with Chandor and its tales.

Great guide, interesting tour
Alita is an excellent guide. She gave us a very interesting summary of the history of Goa which got us the necessary background for the tour . She took the time and was very pleasant. Her English is excellent and easily understood . The mansions we visited are in different states and bring an interesting testimony of the portuguese presence and influence.
