It's not all bowler hats and briefcases in London's financial district. The Square Mile is the oldest neighbourhood in London, and on this tour we'll discover how fashion has shaped its history. Led by a former fashion journalist, this walking tour traces the story of fashion in the City of London, from the must-have Roman hoodie to the king who invented modern menswear. We'll stroll through the City's most prestigious shopping areas, wander down its historic alleyways, and strike a pose at an iconic shoot location as we uncover its secret roots in the rag trade. The tour ends at The Royal Exchange, London's oldest shopping mall – perfect if you're in the mood for some retail therapy afterwards.

From Roman times and their fascinating fashions to the founding of London and the present day, the tour takes you through the Barbican’s rich textile history and striking Brutalist architecture, on to St Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Exchange, with lots of fascinating stops along the way exploring London’s history of craftsmanship — from goldsmiths, shoemakers and bookbinders to merchants and traders. Susannah is a knowledgeable, attentive and truly inspiring guide who brings history to life. I’ve been on many different walking tours in London, and they’ve all been good, but this one definitely deserves an extra gold star. Highly recommended!

This ended up being my favorite tour that we took while visiting London. I enjoyed learning how much fashion influenced not only the people of London but also the city itself. I joined the fashion walking tour with friends. We had a wonderful morning learning about the many connections between the City of London and the fashion industry, going back millennia. Susannah was a brilliant and incredibly well informed guide, she encouraged to discuss and learn from each other and kept us thoroughly entertained and informed the whole way.
