Amazing experience and I highly recommend it. The owners graciously open up their home to provide an authentic experience. We made udon and sushi from scratch. The food was delicious and learning origami and calligraphy was a nice touch. I will definitely visit again when we return to Japan.
My daughter, our friends, and I had an amazing time with Taka and his wife. From the moment Taka picked us up right on time, we knew we were in good hands. He even brought umbrellas in case it rained, which was such a thoughtful touch. This experience is so much more than a cooking class or a meal. You’re welcomed into their home and treated like family. Taka and his wife are incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming, and they made the entire experience feel so personal. The food was absolutely delicious, and we learned so much about Japanese culture along the way. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It’s worth every penny and is an absolute must if you’re visiting Tokyo. Thank you, Taka and your wife, for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience!
We travelled from Chicago in the US and booked Homecoming Taka for our first day- and this was by far the best activity of our trip! Five of us in total, all slightly jet-lagged, and Taka and Keiko made us feel immediately at home. From the moment Taka greets you at the train, you are part of the family. This is an authentic experience, where you learn so much about the Japanese culture in the warm home of a local family. It felt so much more special than a big group tour. For context, we have three kids age 10 and 8 year old twins, and they also said this was their favorite part of the trip. They also maintain it was the best sushi of the trip as well! Cannot recommend this more highly. Taka and Keiko, thank you again for opening your home to us! Unforgettable experience.
Hello, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. Keiko and I were able to spend some memorable time with your family. Your family has wonderful unity and works together to support each other. Keep in touch and see you again in the future! Arigato, Taka & Keiko
Very nice experience with a friendly couple. Good for kids. Our kids really enjoyed all the hands on activities and learned a lot.
Hello Dalena-san, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. You were a wonderful family! We hope we can continue our friendship. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
We all thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Taka and Keiko. I particularly enjoyed making sushi and eating it. But we also did many other things. Best time in Japan.
Hello Sarka-san, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. When I asked your son about the world's population, he answered correctly immediately. Keiko and I are really looking forward to seeing him achieve his future dreams. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
Our family visited Taka and Keiko's wonderful home today. Taka met us at the station. We walked a few minutes to his and Keiko's house in a delightful suburb of Tokyo. Thoroughly recommend this all-round Japanese experience: cooking (and eating!), art, history, culture. We tried so many activities and discovered so much about Japan. Our hosts were also very interested in our countries. A wonderful and unique home experience. Lovely couple. Thank you Taka and Keiko for welcoming us into your home and making us feel so special. We hope to return to Japan soon, and visit Taka and Keiko again.
Hello Jon-san, You were a very adventurous guest, traveling all over Japan by car with your wonderful family. You even went to Kagoshima, a place not widely known even among Japanese people, as it's the setting for a James Bond movie. Keiko and I hope we can meet again at my home with your family in the near future. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
We had such a great time with Taka and Keiko. They were so welcoming, we instantly felt comfortable with them and had a great time learning, cooking, and eating! I booked this because of all the great reviews and am happy to add one more to the list. If you're considering booking, just do it! You will have the best time and leave feeling like you have two new friends in Japan. Side note: Don't be like me. I am a barefoot (no socks) enthusiast, which is more or less acceptable where I live but after going to Taka and Keiko's I read that you should always wear socks in people's homes, temples, etc. Taka and Keiko were too kind to say anything but I feel like I should spread the word just in case anyone else is living the no socks life. Maybe this is old news to the rest of the world but I had no idea. I will definitely wear or bring a pair of socks next time! And yes, there will definitely be a next time :)
Hello, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. You learned a lot about Japanese culture during your trip to Japan. You made a good observation about socks. However, there's no need to worry. The climate in Japan is much hotter now than it used to be. It's not uncommon to not wear socks except in formal settings. Next time we meet, we'd love to talk to you more about Japanese culture. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
We had an amazing experience either Taka and Keiko. All of the aspects of the day were fantastic. They entertained, educated and fed our family (kids aged 7 and 3) for the entire day. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again!
Hello James-san, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. Your 7-year-old and 3-year-old daughters could do all activities perfectly, including making sushi and udon. They did a great job! You were a wonderful family. We look forward to seeing you again. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
We had 3 generations of our family taking part in this experience ranging from age 16 to 77, and we all loved it! It was an extremely personal, fun, and educational way to spend the day. Taka and Keiko were so gracious and engaging, all of the activities were well thought out and organized, and it was so special to be welcomed into their home. You should definitely do this - it will be a highlight of your trip and you will leave feeling like you made 2 new friends!
Hello, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. Your family was a wonderful three-generation family. Our family is also three generations, and your family is a great example for us. See you again in the future! Arigato, Taka & Keiko
Taka and Kieko were the perfect hosts. From the moment Taka met the six of us at the train to Kieko waving goodbye to us as Taka led us back to the train, we felt welcomed and part of the family. We learned a lot about Japanese traditions as well as their personal family life. We had an origami lesson, then learned how to make various types of sushi, udon noodles, and vegetable tempora. 2 of us don’t eat raw fish so they even provided vegetable alternatives that resembled the sushi so we felt included. We enjoyed the huge delicious lunch followed by Japanese sweets and learning about the proper way to drink matcha. Finally, we tried our hand at calligraphy. We left with a bag full of goodies including our personalized calligraphy beautifully done by Kieko as well as our own calligraphy attempts, sushi making items and origami papers along with a sweet treat. The four hours + spent with them were the highlight of our Tokyo stay. Don’t miss it!
Hello, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. Keiko and I are very happy to hear that you were able to enjoy sushi made with alternative ingredients for raw fish. We will continue to strive to ensure that all our guests have an enjoyable experience. Arigato, Taka & Keiko
