E-Bike Self Guided Tour Sintra & Cabo da Roca

Riding a bike to the attractions in Sintra was an amazing experience. However, I'm from Chicago USA where I'm used to riding my bike with big buses and traffic with cars. That being said- Sintra is a mountain - be prepared and be aware of all the winding roads, buses, traffic, etc. Plus getting off your bike and walking through all the palaces, castles, etc. it's a lot of leg power, even with an E-bike. I had an excellent experience with Jose from the E-bike rental- 5 stars!!

This was so much fun I got to see more than I ever thought I could in a half a day. Would recommend to everyone. The e bike rental was easy and he was super nice and responsive.

The host was excellent, providing us with all of the things we needed for a successful journey, including battery packs for our phones. He even fitted our helmets and made sure the bikes were adjusted perfectly. He loaded us up with gps routes and provided us with paper maps and a detailed list of the sights along the route, including a lunch spot. I think he even had a backpack that we could use, but I had one with me. The hills of Sintra were a bit much for us, though, as typical middle-aged casual bicyclists and exercisers (I walk 3 miles daily and do yoga, my husband golfs a few times a week). You will start in town, which at 10:00 am in July is filled with buses, taxis, and tourists not paying attention to bikes. Once you pull away from the city, the ride is beautiful, but you still have to watch for buses and cars that may come whizzing around the narrow bend. Our host told us to ride in the middle of the road and move over when we have room, as the autos have to give one and a half meters of clearance to bicyclists. He said the autos would pass if we’re riding on the side of the road. He was not wrong, but it was mentally difficult to stay in the middle of the road and feel safe. Also, most of the hills were very steep and required quite a bit of work to top. That was ok, after all, we weren’t on mopeds. But coming back down was a little testy, as the steepness makes for a very fast ride, the roads are curvy with the occasional surprise bus or car, and we started to worry that we may wear out the brakes. After visiting Regaleira and Monserrate, we returned to Sintra for lunch and debated about whether or not to attempt the 20 minute ride to Peña. We ended up leaving the bikes locked up and took an Uber to the top. The road was narrow and crowded with buses, cars, and tuk-tuks. There were spots you could look right down the side of the mountain. It was very, very steep. If you want to do this, check that the bicyclists have a different route to go up and down, or be very confident in your ability. For reference, we’ve rented e-bikes in Alaska and New Zealand in hilly but low traffic areas and loved it. If you are comfortable on a bike in traffic and on very steep hills, this is an awesome adventure! If you are the least bit concerned, consider a different mode for visiting Sintra (or go during a low traffic season).

A great way to get around Sintra, see the castles and get all the way to Cabo do Roca without having to wait for crowded buses! João prepared us with great instructions and self-guided maps with much history. Highly recommended.

I had an amazing day discovering the Serra da Sintra on a fat-bike. The bikes are verry qualitative and adapted to every type of roads/tracks. The staff is very welcoming, flexible, and provided my with all the information. I highly recomend Go2Sintra.

Fine tour around the Sintra forrest and fine day after stormy beginning of February. Ebike is a wonderful way to reech and expierence so much in a single day. I can really recommedate Go2sintra rental.

Excellent adventure and fun! First time riding e-bike as well. My partner and I enjoyed it. It was a bit physical because this loop was 40km with a bit rainy. However, we finished it just because 6pm.

Great way to break up our trip with planned excursions and get some exercise. The bikes were excellent as was the operator. He provided tons of information on the town of Sintra and the directions on Ride with GPS were spot on. It was a good workout but a great way to see the whole area and identify areas to go back to and visit as most points of interest required timed entry tickets. Need to be comfortable riding on streets with traffic. I would say about 30% of the ride had us going through high traffic areas but the rest was occasional traffic.

This was a fantastic experience! It was one of the most fun days I had on my Portugal vacation. Jose Carlos, the owner was, very kind and gave great recommendations for what monuments to see. It was very helpful to get a local's perspective. He included 2 battery packs so I didn't have to worry about my phone dying which was so helpful. The app that you use to navigate (using GPS, no need for wi-fi) made for a really easy trip with spoken cues and the bike had a handlebar mount for my phone so navigating could not have been easier. The bike was very comfortable, with a rear rack for my bag, and having the electric assist was great. It was so nice not having to rely on the bus for transport. Jose also provides van support if something goes wrong, which was such a comfort to know I had. Overall I highly recommend this bike rental for seeing Sintra. There may be cheaper options but the support, quality of the bike and app and local knowledge are unlikely to be matched.
