Itinerary
WALLS TOUR: Our meeting point, this is where the guide will meet and greet the guests! Discover the beauty of Dubrovnik while learning about the city’s interesting past on this historical walking tour. Meet your local guide near Pile Gate for a tour of the ancient city walls, a 1.2-mile (2-km) complex structure built in the 14th century that served as defensive structures to protect the city.
After meeting in Pile area, in front of Sky bar, begin the journey through history and through Old Town. Pass the Franciscan Monastery and admire Orlando’s Column, a monument on the Stradun inspired by the city’s long-standing freedom and sovereignty. See, too, Onofrio’s Fountain, built in 1438 at the end of a 8-mile (12-km) aqueduct that gave the city its water supply.
We enter the old town, then head towards the city walls entrance.
We will stop to buy the city walls tickets and then we will walk the city walls. Marvel at the beautiful blue colors of the Adriatic Sea and admire breathtaking views of the port and the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while your guide takes you through the history of the city walls. In the 11th century, the sea channel separating the city from mainland was covered up with earth, so a single wall was built to enclose the present-day Old Town. The city walls have been restored several times in history to resemble their original appearance. With your guide, see Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower within the city walls (entrance fees not included), and learn the strategic position of these forts and their role in Dubrovnik's history. You will also see Fort Lovrijenac in the distance, the only fort that belongs to the city walls but it's physically separated from them, and which you may visit after the tour. As you wander around Dubrovnik's ancient walls, your guide will explain the defensive and political challenges faced by Dubrovnik in the past. Hear stories of the rivalry and conquest Dubrovnik has faced and learn the secrets of how the country used defensive fortifications and diplomacy to remain an independent republic for several years, before ending your tour near the port. *Entrance fee to City Walls not included in price.
The main square of the old town, several stories covered here (St.Blaise's church, Orlando's column, Sponza Palace, Small Onofrio's Fountain, Bell tower...)

Lot of walking/steps. Carry water bottle. Great tour , beautiful city and learn lot. Guide very good and knowledgeable
We did the old town history tour with Goran for 1.5 hrs. He is friendly and funny and knowledgeable with great history and stories We enjoyed the walk!
Had a wonderful experience with Davor! We were lucky enough to have him for both parts of the tour. He took the time to explain the history of Old Town as well as more recent Croatian history. It was never boring and always felt engaged and he encouraged questions. You won’t regret it!
Roman and Frankie were great tour guides that gave us an amazing experience. We’re very well educated about Croatia and gave greta facts. Made us feel safe and comfortable the whole tour. Recommend them very much!
My husband saw the walls advertised at 30euros pp and thought it was expensive. After walking around the Old Town one evening, we asked the guy closing the gates to the wall how much it cost, 40euros pp was his reply, it opened at 8am. We got up early the next day and climbed the many steps to the wall at around 8.30am to avoid the sun, we really took our time as the views were beautiful, lots of pictures taken. There are a few bars along the wall, and a medic half way around, plus toilets later on. It is a circular walk, we thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it was expensive (York walls in the UK are free).
Raman and Ben did a wonderful job. Very knowledgeable and very kind.
Brilliant experience Roman and Ben super friendly and keen to share the histories Would recommend
Davor was a fantastic guide. He did a nice job balancing the information and the pace of the tour, and he had a good sense of humor.
This tour was an amazing way to get Croatian history and also get great views of the city and the sea. Our guide, Goran, was tremendously knowledgeable and personable and was willing to share his personal experiences to really bring the history of Croatia alive. The city walls are a once in a lifetime experience.
We had a fantastic day on the Dubrovnik Walls and Old Town tours. The meeting point was in a great location and very easy to find, which made everything start smoothly. The tour guides for both tours were absolutely incredible. They were so knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about Dubrovnik’s history that they really brought everything to life. Their expertise made the experience outstanding. The only downside was that the Old Town tour repeated quite a bit of the information we had already heard during the Walls tour. That said, there was still plenty of new history and interesting stories that weren’t covered on the walls, so it wasn’t entirely repetitive. If I were recommending the tours, I’d suggest doing the Dubrovnik Walls tour if you’re short on time, as it covers a lot of the key history and offers spectacular views. The Old Town tour is still enjoyable, but I personally found the Walls tour to be the better of the two. One thing to be aware of is that walking the city walls requires a separate entrance fee of €40 per person. It’s definitely worth it for the views and history, but make sure you’re up for the challenge before paying. There are quite a few steps, very little shade in places, and it can be physically demanding, especially during the hotter parts of the day. Overall, it was a great day out, and I’d definitely recommend the Walls tour to anyone visiting Dubrovnik.
