If you have ever been curious about the game of pachinko you should absolutely hang out with Makoto-senpai and let him break it down for you. His passion for the game is real, and he genuinely enjoys introducing pachinko to new people. The game can be hard to decipher at first for the uninitiated, with many machine types being unique, so it helps that his English is fantastic. As with any game of chance, make sure you're OK with trading some money for a memorable experience. If you're lucky, you might end up making a bit of money, or better yet, run into some of the regulars who make up the local Nippori pachinko community, and who are definitely not city-boys! When I ended up not winning anything, Makoto still gave me a small prize from his own winnings. I had a good time overall. If you already have a friend in Japan who's into pachinko or slots, you may not need Makoto's help. But if you don't, Makoto is the perfect friend to introduce you to this dazzling game.

Having already traveled several times in Japan, I always wanted to play Pachinko. But they are quite closed to tourists because everything is in Japanese and nothing helps to understand the game. With this activity I was able to discover the game with confidence thanks to Makoto who explained everything and answered my many questions. I enjoyed playing Pachinko and Pachislot (which is more like our Western slots). Now I can go to other Pachinko thanks to all the tricks he gave me. I will gladly do this activity again on a future trip because there are many subtleties to master if you want to fully enjoy the game.

I had played some regular pachinko before, but pachislot always seemed very complicated and more skill/knowledge-based so I had never tried it. Makoto explained everything very well and impressed me with his in-depth knowledge about the game (if you get this aim for that / the music changed, so you are guaranteed to win / punch means xx% chance of winning / this machine has to win within xxx spins).

I can't say that I entirely understand Pachinko, but our guide helped us walk into the Pachinko Parlor, find machines, win a good amount of money, and stay playing! He was happily willing to stay after our hour was up when one of our first machines was hot so we'd have a chance to learn a few different games. It was a very fun experience!
