Excellent tour and fantastic guide. The tour was so informative
This is a very moving and educational tour. Our guide grew up in this neighborhood and shared first hand experience. It is definitely intense but worth doing if you want to learn more about the complicated history of the Troubles.
Wonderful guide and tour. Deeply moving. Need to go back a 2nd time to take it all in.
incredible rainy day tour. i had accidentally booked to wrong date. She was very accommodating. Appreciate that they do this
My wife and I were on The Troubles Bogside Walking Tour on Monday July 27th. We met with the group and our excellent guide, Paul at the Guildhall in Derry city. From the outset Paul was relaxed, friendly and gave us some background on the history of Derry and the growth of the city in to the vibrant peaceful city it now is. This helped us set the scene for the emergence of The Troubles and his factual account of events was refreshing. He emphasised he was not here to promote a biased view of the historical events just to reiterate the facts that have been independently verified and accepted as a true account of the happenings in The Bogside during this period. Paul's knowledge was deep and as a resident of The Bogside he has some first hand knowledge of later events from his childhood in The Troubles and his accounts were not without a tinge of good humour which was a feature of the walking tour. Many participants had questions and Paul answered thwm and encouraged them. We walked the streets in total safety and indeed Pul greeted many passerbys by name. It has to be acknowledged that this is a tour which while informative leaves you with an overwhelming sense of sadness as to the numbders of lives lost in the conflict on both sides and the trauma the citizens suffered for a very long time. The effect Bloody Sunday had on the city is evident throughout the tour, particularly on the people of the Bogside who lost so many on that sad day. I can recommend this tour who any visitors to the city and it is two hours well spent. The murals and the accompanying explanations were another positive feature of the tour. I'm sure all of the guides are excellent and in Paul, we got one of the best!
This was a very powerful tour and our guide Noel was terrific. Passionate, funny, eloquent and personable, he was a great communicator. And a stop into the Museum of free Derry afterwards is a must. Highly recommended!
This was one of the best history tours I've ever experienced. Our tour guide Noel told us of his personal experience as a young man in Derry during the troubles. Equal parts informative and moving, this tour is a must-do when visiting Derry.
Visited as part of a few days away in Derry, had been to see the Bogside before on our own numerous times over the years. We booked this out of interest to hear the stories from the people of the Bogside directly. Our tour guide was Noel and he completely stunned us and the rest of the group with his storytelling. He was present on Bloody Sunday and had friends killed that day. He explained everything from the beginning of why it's called the bogside, and brought us right up to present day. Showing us points of interest, explaining each mural artwork captivating us throughout. At the end of the tour Noel answered all questions asked of him. He chatted with ourselves for 5 or 10mins as we wanted more information about booking a larger group of family to return in the coming months.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which was very informative. Having a guide with a personal connection to the events of Bloody Sunday made it particularly noteworthy.
