Darjeeling Tonglu Day Trek

The Tonglu hike was one of the highlights of my time near Darjeeling. The trail is beautiful and peaceful, winding through forests and small villages with incredible views of the mountains along the way. On a clear day, you can even see the Kanchenjunga range, which is absolutely breathtaking. The hike is quite manageable but still feels adventurous, and the fresh mountain air makes the whole experience really special. My guide Sangay was very knowledgeable about the area and made the day smooth and enjoyable. I also got to try some nice local specialties. If you’re around Darjeeling and enjoy nature and scenic walks, I would definitely recommend doing the Tonglu hike. It’s a fantastic way to experience the Himalayan landscape.

We had a wonderful walk! The preparation, organization and information (in English) went flawlessly. Our guide Sangay was extremely professional and friendly. He also knew every tree, every plant and knew a lot of exciting and interesting things about the region, its history and topicality. The hike itself is short, but exactly long enough to cross various natural landscapes. Food on the go was excellent (and vegan-friendly). We would come back anytime - merci!

just now New We had an amazing one day hike Dhotrey-Tonglu-Chitrey with Mr Sangay! He was a friendly and knowledgeable guide who helped us through the hike and gave us an incredible overview of the people, places and history of the areas we passed on the hike. DARJEELING SINGALILA RIDGE TREK - 6 DAYS The eight of us joined this 6-day trekking expedition, and the Ashmita team made the entire journey wonderfully comfortable. Our accommodations were clean ensuite rooms, and every meal was delicious, made with organic ingredients. Our mountain guide, Pemba, was professional and passionate. He helped us with photos and videos, capturing many unforgettable moments. The charming and youthful Ashwin was always patient and stayed with me whenever I fell behind. Thanks to their companionship, we completed a perfect 6-day trek and witnessed four of the world’s five great Himalayan 8,000-meter peaks stretching magnificently before us. It was truly overwhelming and unforgettable!

I did the Darjeeling Cultural & Nature day trip and the Darjeeling: Tiger Hill Sunrise day hike with guide Sangay Kunzsang and both were great tours. Sangay is a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly he took great care in the day and the hike back from Tiger Hill was particularly memorable with a lovely breakfast at a local host. He gave me a recommendation about Sikkim where I travelled onto and this area has become one of the best of my travels. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with Ashmita tours and if you get Sangay as your guide you will be very lucky!

October morning In Darjeeling is chilly. We started the tour at 6am. Although the sky was clear in the morning and we could see Mt. Kanchenjunga, it was in cloud when we arrived in Tonglu. Don't mind, this is common in mountains. It was nice to walk and see around the path. The best point of the tour, which we found, was the process of the hiking tour. We passed villages on the way to the start/end locations and could see how people live there (though very tiny parts). We had breakfast in a local restaurant at the starting point, which we would never enter without the guide. We could also see small villages along the path. They are living with their cows and growing plants. On the path, there were many religious monuments and also those related to history of India, Nepal and Sikkim. Our guide, Ashwin, told us stories related to the monuments and we could talk a lot. Additionally, food and tea were very nice and plenty. We thank Ashwin and Lupcha for very special day.

I went out on a Tonglu day hiking trek with Mr. Dawa Lama, my guide, and it was a phenomenal experience through and through. It was peak monsoon season and I had some concerns, but it was a fantastic trip where we trekked through rain, mist, and cold and saw some stunning landscapes that will be forever etched into my memory. I would like to thank Mr. Subhash for managing this so well, and Mr. Dipu Lepcha for our point of entry and exit on the trek. I really appreciate the hospitality and arrangements made by the team at Ashmita Trek & Tours, and I am looking forward to returning soon on another trek!
