Very thorough full on tour. A lot to take in but that's what we wanted. The guide was lovely, Giorgia. It's 3 hours and we went at 10am would have proffered doing the 8.30 as our 11 year old struggled with concentration but this was a must for us to understand the history. Its a busy attraction and hot but we enjoyed it and stuck with it.
The colosseum itself is lovely, big and full of history. The tour guides literally just drop you off outside and explain which entrance to go in to, there is not a tour whatsoever. You have to download the audio guide to your phone via an app and bring your own headphones. Then select which recording to play at different sections of the tour. If you are looking for a detailed and in depth tour I probably woudnt book this one, however if you just want a ticket in, this is ideal. Also be ware if you book for 10:30, they ask you to turn up at 10:15 but then when they give you your physical ticket it says 11 and you don’t get brought over to the colosseum until about 10:45. So if you want a special time or early time, just bear in mind the one you are booking will be 30 mins later! There should also be more staff at the meeting point, they were slightly rude and didn’t acknowledge us at first. But then when the man brought us over he explained it okay. Also the meeting point must be a meeting point for several tours, as there were lots of people, some with stickers on their T-shirts, some not etc etc. So it was very confusing to know what tour you are actually on and what tour guide to speak to.
If you've never been, the tour is worth the little extra cost. Tour guide was great, informative, friendly, involved the children throughout. But it was very very hot during our visit
Paid good money for the Colessium, Palatine Hill & Roman Forum, however, didn't realise it was extra cost for the arena, so didn't get to do that. Understandably very busy. Although good to tick off the bucket list, it was all a little underwhelming.
Be well hydrated and rested for complete excursion experience during hot summer months. Go early, to avoid massive crowds and utilize your guide’s knowledge and suggestions.
Worth it to have them arrange the Colosseum tickets. We didn't feel comfortable doing that but had we I may have reconsidered. The guide was great, very engaging, knowledgeable and fun. But overall the Colosseum portion felt a little rushed. And only included the basic walkthrough of the stands, not the underground area or other areas of interest. On top of that the Roman Forum and Palatine felt like it was only included to justify the high price. Would have been just as happy to explore the Roman Forum and Palatine ourselves given how expansive and open it is. We were brought to a few of the cool places and there was some really interesting information shared. But those portions didn't include visiting the highest lookouts with the best view. Yes, we easily walked there ourselves after the tour ended, just a observation to support why I felt that portion was an after thought to the Colosseum portion. I didn't find any tours available of just the Colosseum when we visited. If I went again, I'd consider looking harder for a more extensive Colosseum experience. While exploring the Roman Forum and Palatine on my own time given it's just a $16 ticket to those. But, just trying to be totally transparent. Overall I will say we were very happy and for a mid-price option it was worth it especially given we were there at the busiest and hottest time of the year! The guide was really great especially with our relatively big group size.
Unmissable Rome experience. Done in the heat so plan for what is necessary and to do the whole site plan for 3 to 4 hours.
Guide was great, very entertaining tour, learnt lots and the guide was very informative and looked after everyone, thank you
Booked the audio guide. There’s an app you have to download to use it, but I did not find it informative. Limited info on the Colosseum. Couldn’t find any info on the Forum or Palatine Hill.
Why not give the tickets directly instead of having to go get the tickets elsewhere and walk back to return to the Colosseum
