Itinerary
Your fabulous Charming VIP Ancient Rome Shore excursion will begin as your English Speaking Driver picks you up you up from your cruise at the Civitavecchia Port and chauffeurs you to Rome city Center. In an elegant and comfortable Mercedes Benz Vehicle you will be chauffeured to the first stop of your tour: Colosseum and Roman Forum! Admire the glorious Flavian Amphitheatre, one of the capital's most remarkable monuments. During the Roman Empire the Roman Colosseum allowed more than 50,000 people to enjoy its finest spectacles. The exhibitions of exotic animals, executions of prisoners, recreations of battles and gladiator fights kept the Roman people entertained for years.
Move on with the tour and reach Circus Maximus, the largest stadium in Ancient Rome, built for chariot races. Imagine to be taking part of one of the Circus Maximus chariot races competitions in which participants tried to complete seven laps of the Circus Maximus. The competitors, mounted in small chariots drawn by horses, gambled much more than their prestige or large prizes in the races, since many of them were slaves fighting for their liberty.
The Palatine Hill is one of the Seven Hills of Rome and it is one of the most ancient parts of the city as it stands right above the Roman Forum and upon the Circus Maximus.
You will then visit the Aventine Hill and enjoy the Secret Keyhole view. The keyhole vista lines up perfectly with the garden, centered on the St. Peter’s Cupola in the distance. The doorway in question leads to the Priory of the Knights of Malta, the legendary crusader knights!
Of course once that you will have visited the Circus Maximus, you cannot miss the chance to admire the Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill)! It is inevitable that you will be charmed by the stunning panoramas of the Roman Forum from there.
Our next stop will be Venezia Square, where is placed the Altare della Patria! This national Monument is dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II and was inaugurated in 1911 as a tribute to the first king of Italy after the country's unification.
The lovely Pantheon is the following attraction to visit. Located in Piazza della Rotonda, it was first built as a temple to roman gods, nowadays is considered as the best conserved Ancient Roman monument, and what’s more interesting is that nobody is sure about its age. Get impressed by its famous hole in the roof, that on summer days gives a beautiful spectacle inside.
Afterwards we will go to Trevi Fountain, where you can partake in the coin-throwing tradition!
As a true VIP guests you then will be chauffeured to the most glamorous location of Rome; Spanish Steps! You will have the chance to climb the splendid Spanish Steps and have a remarkable view of the Piazza di Spagna.
While being chauffeured to Vatican, enjoy the views of the Castel Sant'Angelo is a fortress located on the right bank of the Tiber, a short distance from the Vatican City.
The Vatican will take your breath away as you the first thing you will see is one of the world’s most famous squares: Saint Peter’s Square! Here, as an additional, you will have the option to visit the Vatican Museums, which holds art masterpieces amassed by Popes through history, then you could also visit the astonishing Sistine Chapel, with its famous ceiling decorated by Michelangelo and finally get inside of the St. Peter’s Basilica, words are not enough to describe the beauty of this church!

Our group of 9 arranged for Best Rome Driver Tours to pick us up at our final cruise port (Civitacchia) for transport to Rome with our large amount of luggage and for a tour and then drop off at our Rome Hotel. We had two new vans with great air conditioning and Alex and Stefano were our tour guides. They were excellent at navigating the roads and getting us close to the sites. They were prompt and professional. I use a rollator and was in Alex’s van. He was very attentive to making sure I was able to get around and get in and out of the van. They even provided a wheelchair for my tour of the Vatican. At the last minute 4 of our group decided not to see the Vatican and so Alex and Stefano designed a tour for them so they could see other things in Rome during the time the others were in the Vatican. They even coordinated so that both groups could eat lunch together. Also, my sister and I took wheelchair accessible tour of the Vatican with Eleonora as our guide. She was wonderful too! Very informative and entertaining and she navigated the tour so well, making sure I got to see everything despite using a wheelchair. Overall, a great tour for a reasonable price.
Alex P. was our driver and he was excellent! I highly recommend this company. He was the perfect person for our group.
Excellent service! The company (Best Rome Driver) and the driver (Alex Paolini) was professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about Rome. The car was brand new, clean, and extremely comfortable. Highly recommended!
Stefano is excellent. Extremely knowledgeable. This is definitely the highlight of our trip. We’ve been to Rome over 10 years ago, this time around we definitely see it a differently. Thanks to Stefano! He points out all the details and history of Rome, bring us to all the spots we didn’t see it before. Thank you!
We had the best tour driver, Alex Paolini, from Best Rome Driver today! He gave us Excellent customer service. He is very knowledgeable and very patient. You will be in good hands with Alex handling your tour!
Peter with Best Rome Driver was great! We saw everything we wanted to see and more. Peter is extremely knowledgeable about Rome and he was able to tailor our tour to the tickets and time slots we had purchased. Pickup and dropoff was right from our cruise ship’s gangway and we enjoyed Rome on an extremely hot day from the comfort of an air conditioned van. Thank you Peter!
Stefano was our driver for the day. He was brilliant. He navigated the craziness of Rome in the summer while ensuring we got to each stop on our itinerary on time. I was very impressed with him and would highly recommend him. As for Rome, very interesting and beautiful..also very hot and crowded.
Great driver. He knows his way around Rome. He arrived early and got us to our tour stops on time. He was informative and had a great attitude. It was a pleasure to have him as a driver.
Alex Paolini has been the best driver. He communicated with us early which gave me piece of mind to know he was coming to the port to meet our cruise ship and even arrived early so we could beat some of the traffic to Rome. He is so knowledgeable and seriously knows all the tricks to get us around to the best spots in Rome with little waiting or traffic. I couldn’t believe how much much we saw in a short period of time. We also had an amazing tour of the Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel with Eleonora. Our kids are 7 and 10 and she did a great job keeping the kids engaged and we learned so much. Highly recommend d.
Giulia, quickly answered our email inquiries concerning the itinerary. Paolo, our private tour driver, was knowledgeable in the history of Rome and knew his way around the city very well. Paolo, dropped us off very near the attractions we and there was little walking on our part.
