Chania Sunset Rod Fishing Experience

Very nice and easy going fishing trip with lovely hosts and food and drinks. Caught 5 fishies and great sunset. Recommendable to all!

Overall, everything was good. I went fishing with my wife, and there was also another family on the boat with their two adult children. It was a beautiful and interesting experience, and a good opportunity to try sea fishing from a boat using fishing rods. If you have the possibility to bring your own spinning rod, I would recommend discussing it with the captain. I think it could be a nice bonus to try spinning fishing at sea and use your own skills. It may also be worth experimenting with different lures, as only one type of bait is provided. The fishing itself is quite straightforward: the boat moves to a spot where fish may be present, and you use a rig with a sinker and three hooks. You lower it to the bottom and wait for a bite. When you feel a strike through the rod, you reel the line in. A nice experience overall, especially if you want to try fishing from a boat in the sea.

We very much enjoyed our fishing trip. There were two other couples, which was the perfect number. Because of the weather conditions we went from Souda, which was very calm and pretty. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather (plenty of shade as the boat is covered). We started with coffee and cake, then proceeded to fish from several spots using little prawn chunks as bait. I had never fished before, but it was easy to get the gist. Almost all of us caught at least one small fish - my partner 5! Note that the fish (apart from puffer fish) perish as they are put into a bucket. We were given fruit towards the end of the trip. Our guide took plenty of great photos and texted them to me afterwards, which was real plus. PS, a couple of words of advice: take hand sanitiser as it is not provided, and use the toilets in the port before you get on the boat. They are a bit grim but the facilities on the boat are only for emergencies and it is a 3-hour trip!

Manolis and his wife are very nice and have everything well-prepared, with food and drinks, good hospitality and are easy people to chat with. The sunset is nice, but unfortunately we weren't very lucky with the main part of the activity, catching fish and ended up with 1 catch among 3 guests. Maybe it was the weather, maybe the spots, maybe bad luck, but I had hoped for a bit more. Price for the value is okay.

This was an amazing experience which I booked for my son and grandson. They had a fabulous time from start to finish Captain Manolis and his crew were very welcoming, provided support, advice and made it lots of fun ! My grandson was thrilled to show me their catch as he came back with a bag of fish which he wanted cooked for dinner 😂 They’ll definitely book again I’d highly recommend this experience as the Captain and crew are dedicated to making the experience as enjoyable as possible Fabulous company !

Manolis and his wife organized a great excursion, we went fishing, caught fish and had fun-there are refreshments and snacks on the boat We would recommend it to everyone.

An unforgettable family fishing trip in Crete! We booked the 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM trip with Fishing Trips Kalives and it was honestly one of the highlights of our holiday. Manolis and his wife were incredibly welcoming and kind from the very beginning. They explained everything clearly and gave us great advice, so everyone in the family managed to catch fish. Even our 8-year-old son caught the biggest fish of all of us, which made the experience even more special! They also surprised my wife with a birthday cake, which was such a thoughtful and lovely gesture. The evening time slot was perfect because we were also able to enjoy a beautiful sunset while fishing. A wonderful family experience, friendly hosts, great atmosphere and beautiful memories. We would definitely do it again. Highly recommended – 5/5 without hesitation!

We started out early evening and tried out several spots outside Kalyves. Got some small fish. Nothing to brag about. It was a lovely evening in the bay and that was the reward. We were well taken care of by the crew.
