The Basilica of the Transfiguration or better known as the Cathedral of Cefalù is a monument that reflects the Arab-Norman influence on the island, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2015. An amazing building!
Due to its strategic position on the sea, Cefalù was exposed to attacks by pirates and looters for centuries, especially during the Middle Ages. Since the 5th century BC, the city has been protected by a solid megalithic wall, which embraced the entire Rocca, extending from one end of the gulf to the other. A "must-visit" when in Cefalù !
The Bastione di Capo Marchiafava was built around the 17th century and marks the northern end of the city walls on the sea side of Cefalù. Its polygonal shape, with the tip jutting out towards the sea, recalls the bow of a ship, making it a privileged observation point. From this elevated position you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire gulf.
In ancient times access to the town was exclusively through four gates, each of which was carefully guarded to ensure the safety of the inhabitants. Of these four gates, only one has survived over time and it is Porta Pescara, also known as Porta del Viceré. While the others were destroyed with the demolition of some sections of the walls. Let's discover it!
The washhouse still visible today is the result of a series of works and restorations carried out over the centuries, although some sources attest that it already existed in the Middle Ages. Let's discover this amazing piece of art from the past!
The Mandralisca Museum in Cefalù presents a variety of collections, including archaeological finds, paintings, furniture and objects of great historical value. If you like art, you have to see this place!
The Rocca di Cefalù is an imposing 268-meter hill that overlooks the city, offering a breathtaking view of the Sicilian coast. This historical and naturalistic site is characterized by ancient fortifications, such as the Temple of Diana from the 9th century BC and the remains of the Castle of Cefalù from the 13th century, which I will tell you about later.

Well worth the money. Easy to follow
I’m sure the information was good but I couldn’t stand the narration. I’m guessing it was read by a text to voice app but the American accent was very strong and a lot of the Italian names were mis-pronounced. I had to abandon it half way through.
Very happy with this self guided audio tour. All the information I needed came through the day before. I didn’t use the audio section and just chose to read the comprehensive notes and I didn’t use things in different order starting with the castle and climbing La Rocco first thing before crowds and heat. Had a lovely day using this wonderful service that Matteo provides and found it a great way to get around to the major points of interest at your own pace. Definitely good value for money and I really liked the concept of having a digital guide.
Easy to follow guide, informative and well routed. Only minor inconvenience was having to return to hotel to get full shoes for access to Temple and Castle on The Rock, which were needed due to the uneven paths in places.
Needed to fill in a gap in our trip and our hotel was close to Cefalù, so we began the search for a self guided tour that was walkable and gave options on what to see or skip etc. the path linkage to Google Maps was great in helping us navigate the city streets. Would highly recommend this tour for those who want a high level overview of the history and city highlights. Well worth the cost and appreciated the flexibility the app provided to skip ahead, or repeat. We also listened to the tour prior to going so we were a little more familiar with what we would encounter.
Nice little tour! If you are doing a day-trip to Cefalu from Palermo - money well spent! DIY at its best!
Got to see parts of Cefalu that we would never have found.
I found the experience to be quite interesting and very informative.. it took longer than expected and therefore did not finish the tour.
Had difficulty downloading the tour, to the extent we had to buy another ticket, but the price is so good it wasn't the end of the world. It would be good if the tour guide actually narrated the tour, rather than AI reading the script. But i felt we got a good feel of the town, and loved going up La Rocca, despite the heat. Views were amazing!
Very easy app and a great way to see and hear about Cefalu at your own pace
