The best way for us to describe the Villa Borghese gardens is: As the keeper of the Villa Borghese Pinciana, I publicly declare: whoever you are, providing to be a freeman, fear no hindrance here; go where you like, ask what you wish; leave when you want. Everything you see was made more for the guest than for its landlord. In the golden century, when peaceful years made any thing splendid for the refined ones, the landlord forbade all iron rules for the guest. Let good faith be the only rule for our friend. But if someone, consciously and purposely, by wickedness and deceit, was to break the golden rules of courtesy, be alert, the angry keeper may break these friendly words on your head. (Latin inscription carved on marble plate at Villa Borghese).

We’ll admire Caravaggio’s most important paintings, among which “Young sick Bacchus” and “ Boy with a basket of fruit”; Bernini and Canova’s magnificent sculptures’ collection, boasting works like “Apollo and Daphne”, “David”, “The rape of Preserpina” and “Paolina Bonaparte”. Of course we won’t miss out on Raffaello’s “Entombment of Christ”. What an amazing gallery! Recommended as a favorite so it was our first time to visit. The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the artwork and the history. However, we were very rushed through the tour, perhaps because it was the last one for the day. I think Viator should adjust the schedule because we can barely remember what we saw due to the urgency to get us through the gallery before closing.
Julianno was excellent. Knowledgeable and passionate about the subject which made the tour much more interesting than a lot I have been on in the past.
Frederic was the best tour guide. His stories regarding the sculptures and paintings brought life to the rooms and made the museum so very interesting!! It was fantastic!!
Excellent tour. By the way, for anyone especially wanting to see Caravaggio’s paintings, the one titled Sick Bacchus which normally featured with the others in Room 8 is on loan from 9/26 to 1/10/2027 to Mantua, Italy for a special exhibition at Palazzo Te.
The meeting point was not well indicated, we stood in the queue, then had to go to the meeting point, and missed our guide. On tour without a guide.. too expensive without a guide.
Guido was our guide and his knowledge and presentation of info and facts regarding the art and sculptures was absolutely stellar. Sometimes it's hard to keep the group focused and engaged at a museum because there can be so many different interpretations of a piece of artwork, but Guido was good at listening and providing different perspectives on what we were seeing. He knew his stuff and was excellent in his presentation and animation throughout the tour. The Borghese doesn't get the attention that other attractions garner in Rome, but it's definitely a great gallery and collection that art lovers would enjoy and, fortunately, we had an outstanding guide to show it to us, especially since I wouldn't profess to be an art expert, but I truly enjoyed this tour.
What an incredible art collection. The tour guide Smagarda was a great story teller and her history was impecable. The organization was on point. There are no more words that fantastic.
Very knowledgeable guide. She provided lots of useful information and brought to life so much of the art.
Very informative guided tour by tour guide Novella. Helped put the various sculptures, paintings and murals into historical perspective and significance. Besides the exhibition galery the gardens are worth stroling through too.
Your guide Dimitri was very clear in his tour and and made the tour much more enjoyable
