The entertainment is wonderful. Make sure you're ready to climb some stairs. But, it's worth it. The dinner option is worth considering.
Incredible experience. Easy to take the funicular train to the Fortress. Go a bit early so you can walk around. Wear flat shoes for stairs, cobblestones and sandy pathways. The concert is at the very top of the Fortress in a gorgeous room with amazing acoustics for chamber music. The artists are so very talented. We purchased a sparkling white wine to enjoy during the concert.
This was a lovely experience. You take a tram/elevator up the mountain. I would get there at least 30-45 minutes early to explore the castle first. You have to climb a lot of stairs up to the top of the castle for the concert. I didn't see an elevator anywhere. They sell some drinks outside of the concert room. I sat in the last row and still had an amazing time. We watched the sunset behind the musicians.
The programming (choice of concert pieces) could have been better, some pieces were a bit easy, lacking lyricism and virtuosity, though certainly by great composers. Only 7 pieces for $43, a bit expensive.... For tourists who have just arrived in Salzburg, it would have been better to indicate to take the funicular to go to the fortress, and the precise location of the concert: the room at the top of the fortress higher than the panoramic terrace.
Well worth it. Superior musicians, fascinating castle, good choice of pieces. Good acoustics, incredible view of the city.
Delightful mix of Mozart, Dvořák, Monti, and Strauss pieces by a talented group of 6 musicians in a stunning setting. One included a piano concerto by Mozart, adding a 7th musician to the mix. A cheeky performance in one piece by the first violinist brought some levity to the event. Includes easy and fast funicular ride up and down, a fabulous sunset, and food and beverage to purchase should you wish it. In a moment of spontaneity, we purchased tickets an hour and a half before the performance began and were very happy we had done so. Highly recommended.
Beautiful location, combined with a magnificent sunset extremely beautiful ... musically, however, a very, very below-average quartet.
I was on an organized tour with my mother and sister and none of us are particular fans/students of classical music but all enjoyed this experience! I was looking for an evening activity separate from our tour and booked this as a way to kill two birds with one stone: we had a brief exploration of the Fortress and great views of Salzburg and also got a taste of music! The music was not all Mozart but I enjoyed the variation. The musicians were very talented and I loved the experience in a scenic and historic venue. One thing to note is that the room for the concert is not super accessible as you must climb a lot of stairs to reach it and also the WC is not close by.
Great evening. Quiet spritz overlooking Salzburg followed by the concert. Well worth it.
Give yourself time to get there. Especially if you are using public transportation. The concert itself was beautiful. The sunset makes it even better.
