Itinerary

Reversing Falls Rapids
35 min

A unique phenomenon created by the collision of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river; rapids form again, peaking at high tide. A 8.5-metre (28-foot) tide cycle is roughly 12.5 hours.

35 min

Beautiful Tour of Saint John!

We finally made it to the famous Bay of Fundy after being weathered out twice. Very happy to have our guide for all the Tides explanations. Might have missed nature at her craziest without him. The fresh and delicious fish and chips were quite expensive but that's a tourist spot for you. Don't expect a glut of tourist items for purchase. Good walking shoes a must. High recommend the visit.

Best Bay of Fundy Tour!

The highlight of this tour was seeing the reversal of the Saint John River at low and high tides. Our guide explained how and when this happens and we went there in the morning and later in the day to see it first hand. In between we went to the Bay of Fundy. It was amazing to see and learn about how much the tide changes. Overall this was a great day.

Wonderful Tour !

We had a great adventure. Our tour guide Keith was very informative and took the time to get to know a little about his guests. We got to see the reversing tides, incoming and later outgoing. The driver, Greg, worked well with Keith and both kept us very entertained. St Martin was awesome and we were able to see the sea caves. The Cave restaurant was great, good chowder and fish n' chips. Then we topped it off with a nice ice cream at the Octopus ice cream shop. They got us back to the ship with time to spare. All in all a wonderful excursion. I would recommend this to anyone!

Great tour in Saint John!

Great tour of St. John! Our guide Keith was amazing, he was entertaining and very knowledgeable with the Bay of Fundy's history and surrounding areas. The trip took us to the Reversing Falls Rapids, in the beginning of the tour we stopped to take photos to see how fast the rapids were traveling. Then it was off to see the small village of St. Martins. A very small village on the coast with wood covered bridges that was a time warp in the past. Beautiful scenery! On the way back to our ship, we stopped again at the Reversing Falls Rapids to see the rapids reversed direction and were now flowing in the opposite direction! Amazing to see!!

We were a very small...

We were a very small group of 5 people. We had a general itinerary that was flexible according to where the group wanted to spend time. One of the primary highlights we made sure to see were two visits a few hours between of Reversing Falls to see the change in the water due to the tide. Also, we visit the caves at St. Martin's. They have a seafood shack there were I had the freshest haddock fish and chips.

Reversing Rapids and Caves

The good part was visiting the reversing falls at two different times and seeing the flow going in different directions. Amazing! The drive to the caves was bland but the caves were nice. Fortunately I had proper shoes to cross the creek to get to the caves. The tide needs to be halfway out or more to access the caves, and water shoes are recommended at the site. Due to the hour long bus ride, this is not a ride for small children (motion sickness alert). Take a snack as the food wait at the caves is long.

Operator response

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for joining our Bay of Fundy tour! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed visiting the Reversing Falls at both tide changes — it’s truly one of Saint John’s most fascinating natural wonders. We appreciate your helpful tips for future travelers about the Sea Caves and footwear — water shoes are indeed a great idea, especially when the tide is mid-to-low. Just to clarify, the drive to the caves takes about 35 minutes, and while some may find the route quiet, many of our guests enjoy the peaceful countryside and scenic coastal views along the way. There are also several charming local stops such as antique shops, ice cream stands, and lookout points that our guides are happy to include when time allows. Complimentary snacks and bottled water are also available on board for your comfort. Furthermore, we include a one-hour break at the Sea Caves Restaurant, where guests can enjoy a delicious meal or walk along the ocean floor during low tide. The restaurant is famous for its world-renowned seafood chowder and fresh local dishes. We’re so glad you enjoyed the Sea Caves and hope you left with wonderful photos and lasting memories from your time with us. Thank you again for choosing S-TOUR NB, and we look forward to welcoming you back on another adventure soon!

Definitely not a worry free shore excursion..pickup at cruise port scheduled for 1 but tour left at 12:30 PM ..Driver returned after my call and wanted my wife and I to sit in the 3rd row seats of an SUV..no way for 4-5 hour tour since I am 6’2’…driver requested a previous bus tour wait 15 minutes until he could drop us off..30 plus bus passengers not happy with delay…bus tour guide was a nice older woman but added little in terms of comment ..bus driver stopped to see a lighthouse and covered bridge and forgot to tell the passengers he was parking the bus a quarter of a mile down the road.. we finally found the bus after searching.. since the tour was running late the tour guide and bus driver we’re going to skip the final stop at the reversing Falls but passengers rebelled so they decided to only stop for 10 minutes at the destination, which was the highlight of the tour

Operator response

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value all comments as they help us continue improving our services. However, we would like to clarify a few points regarding your experience: 1.Tour Departure Time – Our tours are scheduled around cruise ship arrivals and departures. On the day of your booking, we texted you confirming your tour time as 12:00 PM Saint John time. You arrived later than the scheduled time, but even then, we arranged a private tour for you in a comfortable van. At your request, we drove back to meet the bus, and when you joined, you confirmed that you were happy with this arrangement. 2. Seating Arrangements – We never intend for any guest to be uncomfortable. We offered you different options, including continuing in the van or moving to the bus, and reassured you that your comfort was our priority. We also made it clear that if none of these options were suitable, we could provide a full refund. 3. Itinerary Stops – Our tours always include highlights such as lighthouses, covered bridges, and the famous Reversing Falls. On busy cruise days, attractions can become crowded, and time at some stops may need to be adjusted to ensure all guests return to their ship on time. 4. Guides and Drivers – Our guides are highly experienced, with many having over 18 years of knowledge of Saint John and the Bay of Fundy. We are sorry if you felt the commentary was limited, and we will review this feedback with our team to ensure improvements. 5. Guest Care – Even when guests miss their scheduled departure, we always make every effort to ensure they do not miss the experience entirely. This includes arranging private vehicles when possible so that no one is left behind. We sincerely regret that you were not fully satisfied, despite our efforts to accommodate your situation. Please know that guest safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priorities. We hope to welcome you again in the future for a smoother and more enjoyable experience. Warm regards, S-TOUR NB Managemen

Poorly planned.

Bus driver drove too fast around curves and we felt unsafe. Tour guide was very nice but wasn't well prepared. Bay of Fundy stop was so crowded we were unable to get lunch.

Operator response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few points: Driver Experience: Our driver has many years of professional driving experience, and this is the first time such a concern has been mentioned. Safety is always our top priority, and we will continue to monitor this carefully. Tour Guide: Your guide has over 25 years of guiding experience. She is a little older, but we have never received complaints about her professionalism or knowledge before. We do appreciate your comments and will share them with her so she can improve further. Lunch Break: Our tour always includes a one-hour lunch break at the Sea Caves Restaurant. If you felt rushed, our driver and guide could have waited longer if you had mentioned it, but unfortunately this was not raised during the tour. Lastly, when there are multiple cruise ships in port, the main attractions can become very busy, which is unfortunately outside of our control. We always do our best to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience despite these challenges. We value your feedback as it helps us improve, and we truly hope to welcome you back in the future for a smoother experience.

Over Promised, Way Under Delivered

This was a very expensive taxi ride essentially. We were expecting to learn about this beautiful land but a family member and Google gave us more information than Abdul, our guide. Definitely not worth it. Walk around town, eat some lobster, and thank us for steering you in another direction! Disappointed.

Operator response

Our Bay of Fundy Guided Tour is not a taxi ride—it includes 6–7 sightseeing stops such as the Reversing Falls, Fort Howe, Carleton Martello Tower,City Market, King’s Square, and the beautiful Sea Caves in St. Martins. Depending on the size of the group, we operate with clean, air-conditioned buses or comfortable passenger vans, all led by a licensed local guide providing live commentary throughout the day. We understand that experiences are personal and some guests may prefer more or less narration. However, many of our travelers enjoy the balance of history, culture, and free time at each stop. As a small, seasonal business, our goal is always to deliver a memorable and authentic New Brunswick experience. We encourage future guests to read our many positive reviews and join us to explore the Bay of Fundy with confidence.
