Rainbow Mountain

This tour is well worth the early morning departure. Our guide - Jose - was passionate and informative and provided valuable insights to the history of Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley. The meals were fresh local food and very good. And our driver - Juan - was excellent up and down the mountain.

Long journey great experience - arrived late

Long journey great experience The procedure did not correspond to the description. Different itineraries are offered through the local agencies, which differ from the process. Routes and providers are merged here. I made the trip on 28.04.2024. The operator who was stricken on the bus was Andino. This offers another tour without an ATV option. Here the guide looked after Doris/Doro. With I started at 04:30 from the hotel. My tour unfortunately started later. The pickup did not take place at the indicated time at 3:30 am. The contact with the operator, was supported by the staff of our hotel La Posada del Viajero in Cusco, Santa Catalina Ancha 366 on the night of thankful . The hotel pickup was then around 4:30 a.m. As a result, I was later at the destination and already many other tourists on site. That's not how it was intended. A small hike was planned, which did not take place. Instead, we drove to the finish line with the ATVs. Obviously, we also started from another location with the ATVs, as we encountered other ATVs in the feeder minibus. Arrival at the ATV drop-off point was around 09:00. The guide Carus was there. One hour of travel time was planned with the ATVs each way. Effectively, it was only 25 minutes each way. Arriving at the mountain/gathering place, there was a briefing on the surroundings and when the return is planned. Stay was an hour. The guides were super nice and were also helpful with information and pictures. Photos with llamas standing by for a small allowance could also be taken on the mountain. The ascent of the 5000-meter-high "viewing hill" could be recognized in the passport by a great stamp. Overall, however, the tour was a lot of fun and I can recommend the tour even despite the long journey and the changes. However, these changes should be communicated by the operator. Tripadvisor - I am curious about the proposed solution!!

The adventurous way to see Rainbow Mt.

Overall if you have an inkling of wanting to see Rainbow Mt. (Montana Vinikunka) and ride ATVs this one is for you. Don’t be afraid, the crew gave us helmets, the “basics” and some “practice time”. After that the views, vistas, and awesome surroundings grab you hard! From alpacas grazing on the slopes to the snow capped Andes, and finally the extremely unique colors of the “Rainbow” Mt. We climbed up to the top of the adjoining Mt. To take awe inspiring photos of the rare surroundings. Riding the ATVs was the frosting on the day. While the best laid plans can sometimes go awry, Dino and his crew saved the day and gave us an unforgettable experience.

Not worth it

I’ll start with the positive: the view is breathtaking! Truthfully, this tour is WAY too long! It took about 5 hours there and 5 hours back on very scary mountain roads with dangerous turns. We were gone a total of 15 hours. The tour seemed very unorganized. Our tour driver was probably the scariest driver I have ever rode with. He passed cars in the no passing zone around corners. Breakfast was wonderful but “lunch” (more like dinner) was cold and not tasty. A guy came on our bus after the mountain and made everyone pay 25 sols. Everyone on the bus was very confused by this since the tour said it included entrance fees. He even wrote the names down of the people who paid and almost felt bullied into paying him. The guide for the ATV’s did not specify a time for everyone to look at the mountain. We were up there over an hour with the very cold winds. Several people were ready to leave but the group had to wait on the two people still looking at the mountain. It was about 35 degrees and very windy so everyone was cold while we had to wait. Overall, I would say save your money and book a different tour.
