The Acropolis, which dominates the center of modern Athens, was the ancient city's most important and majestic sanctuary, dedicated primarily to its patron goddess,Athena.
Dionysus' Theater or Dionysus' Theater Elefthereos is the most important known open-air theater in ancient Athens and is regarded as the world's first theater. It was about 3 meters above the temple and was part of Elefthereos' sanctuary.Dionysos was the main venue for Attic drama because it hosted the Great Dionysia,Athens' largest theatrical festival.
The magnificent Odeon of Herodes Atticus was the final great structure constructed in antiquity in the Acropolis area.It was a typical Roman amphitheater from imperial times, with a capacity of at least 5,000 people. The monument was renovated in the 1950s and has since hosted cultural events, mostly in the context of the Athens Festival.
A particular main entrance going into the inside is a common feature to religious locations. It was customary in ancient Greek architecture for any significant religious site to have a primary gate. This major gateway, the Propylaia, has taken on a unique significance in Acropolis. It is neither only a gate going into the sacred area, nor is it only an architectural appendage to the main temple complex. The Propylaia play an exquisite and one-of-a-kind role. They represent the magnanimous nature of the Athenian Acropolis. This is why, rather of being a simple gate, the Propylaia is magnificently built as a complex and harmonious public monument.
Parthenon is known as one of the most significant cultural places in the world as a permanent icon of ancient Greece, democracy and Western civilization. It began in 447 BC and work on building in just nine-year period (the season record) and in 438 BC,was finished. The task of embellishment began in 438 and finished in 432 BC.
A temple dedicated to Goddess Athena and Nike on the sacred rock. It was built approximately 420 BC and is the first full ionic temple in the Acropolis.
An exquisite edifice with special attributes and architectural form on the north side of the Acropolis rock.According to legend,it was here that Poseidon and Goddess Athena battled for the city's name.
It's also called the Olympeion or Temple of Olympian Zeus and builted in honor of the father of gods, Zeus who was living at the Mt Olympus summit.
The Hadrian's Gate in Athens is a Roman arch.It was created in honor of him during his stay in 131 AD and provides entrance to the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
One of the most important cultural monuments in Athens and in Greece in general is the Panathinaiko Stadium. It is otherwise known as Kallimarmaro and survives to this day in very good condition. As it is mentioned in its name,at this stage the goddess Athena was worshiped and for this reason competitions were organized in her honor every year.As a project it was completed before the 6th century BC,but in its final form with the precious marble it arrived after a long time.
The Evzones execute the renowned "changing of guard" on Syntagma,in front of the Unknown Soldier monument, every hour. Two Evzones come in front of the monument of the Unknown Soldier to take the place of their colleagues. The Evzones who until then stood motionless guarding the monument, start an impressive gait by stretching their limbs which is a great spectacle. The same steps are followed by the Evzones who are going to replace them. When the show, which lasts about 15 minutes,is over, the Evzones stand still to guard the monument while their tired colleagues return to their barracks to rest.
The monument of the Unknown Soldier is used as a reference point and tribute to the dead Greek soldiers on the two national celebrations of Greece of 25/3/1821 & 28/8/1940
The Greek Parliament is a timeless icon that is part of greek cultural memory today. The structure has evolved, altered, and updated through the years.
Syntagma Square is one of Athens' most central squares, and possibly the largest in the city center.
This building intimately connected with Greek history and served as the Greek National Assembly's first permanent place.
The country's most prestigious research institute was created in 1926 and is supervised by the Ministry of Education. The main building of the Academy is a notable landmark in Athens.
Established in 1837,it is not only Greece's first university, but also the Balkan peninsula as well as an eastern Mediterranean.
It was created by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen as part of his famed Trilogy of neo-classical structures, which also included the Academy and the University building of Athens.
The hill was a rock that the goddess Athena was carrying in her hands and it fell to her in Athens when she heard the bad news that a crow carried to her.At the top of Lycabettus, adorned with the church of Agios Georgios, you will see Athens and the Saronic Gulf.
Ancient Agora was the focal point of public life.On several times, the wide open area drew the attention of the Athenians.
Plaka is Athens' oldest and most scenic neighborhood, having been inhabited since antiquity and continuing to this day.The gods' district,as it is known,is reminiscent of old Athens, complete with antiques, and Byzantine churches. It is a venue where you may enjoy authentic flavors from Greece.Have a nice meal!
Monastiraki means "small monastery" in Greek,as a major monastery originally existed in the neighborhood's main square.

Nasos prides himself on being a Spartan who will show you Athens as a traveler and not a tourist. His knowledge and experience allowed us to see many amazing sites in a short time window and in some ways we would not have known otherwise. He also was flexible and gave several options to ensure the tour met our expectations. Suggest evening tour timed with sunset.

Aristotle as our tour guide was amazing! Our group was mixed in activity level and ages and they were able to accommodate us and tailor the activity to our needs. This was so educational and we had a great time. Do not hesitate to book a tour!

Our guide was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable and we were given information I don’t think we would have gotten with any other guide. Was my first time in Athens and we were given so much information that I don’t think any other guide could have done. We really enjoyed our tour very much. I’d rate him an excellent.

Our guide, Dennis, is beyond exceptional!! This was the best of multiple tours we took in Athens. Since Dennis is an experienced former Presidential Guard he gave us keen insight into the responsibilities of guarding Parliament and the President of Greece’s home. He also took us to a scenic spot only the locals know that gave us a wonderful view of the city of roughly 4 million. Next we saw the Olympic Stadium that they built for the 1890 Olympics. The grand finale was a nighttime view of the Acropolis. We highly recommend the Athens by Night Private Sightseeing Tour with Dennis as your guide!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It is truly rewarding to hear that your evening in Athens stood out among your experiences. Dennis will be very happy to know how much you appreciated his knowledge and the unique perspective he shared, especially given his background. We hope to welcome you back to Athens again in the future for another memorable journey!
Nasos was such an amazing tour guide! He was so much fun to spend time with on our last in Athens. Amazing! He was able to pivot…as we had seen most of the major tourist attractions that day. He took us to some of the best hidden gems around Athens that evening. He knew exactly where to be for the best sunset ever. And he’s an incredible photographer…with just a cell phone. He had a wealth of information. PLUS-he also does food tours. He took us to a fantastic tavern for some of the best food we had in Athens. The next time I go to Greece, I will definitely take his food tour. And I highly recommend him to anybody who has the opportunity to visit Athens. He’s like family now.
Thank you for your lovely review! It’s wonderful to hear your evening in Athens was so memorable! Nasos loves sharing the city’s secrets and we’re glad you could enjoy the views, local flavors, and special spots he revealed along the way. We’d be happy to welcome you back for another unique experience!
Nasos was incredibly fun and knowledgeable. We had already seen many of the sites that day so he was awesome making a change to the tour and instead took us to the best places off the tourist trap for great shopping and food. He took us up to Lycabettus Hill for a spectacular sunset AND he is quite a photog. Nasos knew all the right places to shoot and how to take pics in such beautiful ways. He really is such joy and loves his job. Next time we want to try one of his food tours, but this time we had to head home the next day. You must give this amazing tour a try. We miss you Nasos! Thank you so much for your amazing review! We're absolutely delighted that you had a memorable experience exploring Athens with Nasos. We can't wait to welcome you back for more great adventures in the future!
I went on the tour with my sister. We had an an absolutely wonderful time! Our tour guide Nasos was so nice. He picked us up early so we could have as much time as we could at Acropolis by avoiding rush hour traffic. The views were stunning, and we got some amazing photos of it at sunset. We enjoyed hearing the history of it and the symbols important to it. He also had supplementary materials for us to view about some of the places we saw. One thing we really appreciated was that there is an elevator to get to the top. My sister has trouble walking, and she would not have been able to get to the top and back otherwise. He had a wealth of knowledge about the places we saw, and we really enjoyed hearing about how the places came to be and the history behind them. Not only did we see the tourist areas, but we also saw Athens behind the scenes that many visitors to likely don't get to see. We saw the changing of the guards which was one of the most memorable stops for me. When he found out we hadn't had time to get any olive oil or souvenirs (we were in Athens for only a day and I literally went on the tour as soon as I arrived from the airport), he took us to the nicest store with so many beautiful items. We were able to get olive oil, and some lovely gifts for family and friends. I really love the Pythagorean cup I got which was prompted by seeing a demonstration of how it works. It has a lot of meaning for me because it has Poseidon on it, and I had just completed a 33.3k swim in Skopelos the day before. We finished the night off with an amazing meal and drinks, a rare treat indeed as some of the things we sampling were of limited availability which made it even more special. We definitely will be recommending this tour and Nasos to family, friends, and colleagues, and will plan to return so we can have more time exploring and learning about the wonderful culture and heritage of Greece! Nasos was our tour guide and he was so wonderful. He was super communicative before and during the tour regarding when and where we were being picked up, and all other things regarding the tour. Our tour was phenomenal— we felt like we got a great feel for athens— all in one night. We went to the Acropolis city and Nasos was so knowledgeable about all things Athens— including the acropolis. He also showed us the changing of the guards by the president residence, which was such a unique experience to see it close up. He took us to a local spot for drinks and dessert, and was extremely flexible depending on what we wanted to experience. He was so kind and would recommend him and this tour a million times!
