Itinerary
Catacombs Of Kom El Shoqafa
Admission not included240 min
At 7:00 am, we will pick you up from your hotel and head straight to Alexandria, where we will spend the next two and a half hours traveling by highway to get to our starting point "Kom El Shoqafa" in Alexandria.
Kom El Shoqafa contains a collection of tombs, statues, and archaeological artifacts associated with the Pharaonic funeral mortuary cults and Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences. Because of the time, many of the characteristics of Kom El Shoqafa's catacombs combine Roman, Greek, and Egyptian cultural points; some statues are Egyptian in style but wear Roman clothes and hairstyles, while others share a similar style. A circular staircase descends into the tombs tunneled into the bedrock during the Antonine emperors' reign. (2nd century AD)From the 2nd to the 4th centuries, the building was used as a burial chamber before being rediscovered in 1900.
Pompey's Pillar
Admission not included60 min
It will be the secondary attraction. The Pompey Pillar's moniker is deceptive. Gaius Pompey, a Roman general, and consul, was a rival of Julius Caesar in a civil war and was assassinated by a Ptolemaic pharaoh in 48 BC as he escaped to Alexandria. This single column, perched on a rocky hilltop in the center of Alexandria, has nothing to do with him. Crusaders believed his grave was marked by a 100-foot (30-meter) red Aswan granite pillar, which is how this tale started. The pillar is a triumphal monument built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 300 AD. During the visit, the site will be admired from the outside only, making it an ideal stop without requiring entrance fees. The real importance of this archaeological site lies in what was before the pillar: the Serapeum, Alexandria's acropolis.
Citadel of Qaitbay
Admission not included60 min
The third stop will be this. In Alexandria, Egypt, on the Mediterranean Sea the coast, stands the 15th-century defensive fortress known as the Citadel of Qaitbay or the Fort of Qaitbay. In 1477 AD (882 AH), Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay founded it. The Citadel is located at the mouth of the Eastern Harbour on the eastern edge of Pharos Island's northern tip.
Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Admission not included180 min
We will visit the world's largest library: "Bibliotheca Alexandrina", which currently has 8 million Books. Visit its open court to see the statues of Ptolemy the First and Alexander the Great, which were both discovered close underwater. You will go to "The President Sadat Museum" and the "Alexandria Museum of Impressions. Please note that the Alexandria Library is closed on Friday and legal holidays. You will need to buy a ticket to access the reading section. Finally, we will travel to the beginning location for around 2.5 hours on the highway.
Ancient Roman Amphitheater
Admission not included60 min
The Roman Amphitheatre is one of Alexandria's most popular monuments. This is Egypt's second most important city, after the capital, Cairo. While the amphitheaters were spread through the different countries like Greece, Italy, and Turkey during the reign of the Romans with many examples of these structures still present in many regions around Europe and the Middle East, the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria is the only one of

Alexandria, the driver and guide were amazing!! Beware the hidden fees…
The trip to Alexandria was great! The drive from Cairo was smooth and Mohammed was an excellent driver! When we arrived we met our guide and she handled the tour with knowledge and fun! I would absolutely recommend a visit to Alexandria if you have a day or if you have a long layover in Cairo!!
******PLEASE NOTE*******
This operator does not allow for airport pick up when setting up the reservation. If you want the airport they will message you and tell you there is a $15 USD per person fee each way. They called it an airport charge. THIS CHARGE IS NOT REAL. Our “all in” price was $451.00 Canadian for two people. The round trip of $60 USD added another $84 Canadian to our experience. All this before gratuity.
Do yourself a favour and either meet at a hotel or find a different booking site or company Viator uses for the trip to avoid the hidden fees.
Go to Alexandria…it’s a beautiful look into Greco/Roman Egypt!
Operator response
Thank you for your review and for your kind words about Mohammed and our guide. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your day in Alexandria.
We would just like to clarify one point for future travelers. Airport pickup is not included in the standard tour price shown on Viator. Pickup from Cairo hotels is included, while airport pickup requires an additional transfer fee because of the different pickup location and transfer arrangements.
We keep this as a separate fee because most of our guests are picked up from hotels in Cairo. Adding the airport transfer cost to the tour price for every customer would mean that guests who do not need an airport pickup would also pay for a service they do not use.
The airport transfer fee is communicated when airport pickup is requested. It is not a hidden entrance fee or a fee charged by Alexandria.
We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to make the pickup options and any additional costs as clear as possible before the tour.

Well guided tour of Alexandria
We needed to be back in Cairo earlier than the trip to Alexandria warranted, and Shaimaa, our fantastic guide for the day, was set a really hard task by us to cram in our sightseeing. She rose to the challenge brilliantly.
We had a great tour of Alexandria.
Shaimaa is incredibly knowledgable and thoughtful. The additional background and stories that she wove into her narrative were fantastic. She is highly articulate as well as highly knowledgable and spoke clearly, at pace and at just the right volume. We learned so much. The catacombs are a remarkable melding of cultures and traditions and the library, like the GEM, an impressive modern Egyptian monument.
Thank you Shaimaa for all your patience and knowledge.
Also thanks to Omar for being so responsive on text and dealing with the pickup misunderstanding so promptly.

Private tour from Cairo to Alexandria
As a family of 6 we traveled from Cairo to Alexandria with a private driver picking us up from the hotel. The Diver was good, the car-mini bus was clean, new and comfortable.
We met the private tour guide Marwa in Alexandria by the 1st site, the tour covered the mentioned sites as advertise, but Marwa wasn't very engaging, it would have been nice to hear bit more history about the visited sites. The lunch was in a nice restaurant by the seaside overlooking the castle and the food vas high quality. Overall very good tour and we would do it again.

Alexandria has potential
The coastline for Alexandria is stunning. Outside of that, its probably my least favorite place in Egypt. There is more tombs to visit, but nothing overly captivating. The citadel was the nicest thing to see. We had lunch included in our tour and the restaurant we went to was pure chaos. It also didn't help that no one knew what was going on. The driver and the guides were great and tried to make us very comfortable. Mahmoud made a lasting impression on parents - so much so that they asked for him to take them around the following day. Nona was sweet and gentle with both my parents as well.

A great initial tour of Alexandria Egypt
This tour delivers as advertised
The driver was prompt at my downtown hotel which was not on the list and did a great job of negotiating Egyptian traffic for the day
The guide “Ella” who has a background in archaeology and tourist guide did a wonderful job in presenting the details and background stories on the catacombs, Pompey’s pillar, ancient Roman theatre, the library of Alexandria, Qaitbay Cidadel and providing a fresh fish lunch on the coast Both were extremely friendly and informative I had a wonderful day and hope those reading this have the good fortune to share a day with this tour

Alexandria in a Whirlwind!!
Our driver and guide were both warm, friendly and responsive to our requests and their English was exceptional. It was a long day and we saw so much. Our guide was emerging as a guide and I would suggest that she improve her knowledge of the sites, but I really liked her and I know her knowledge will improve. I'm glad I went to Alexandria to experience it's wonders.

Professional, Memorable Alexandria Tour with Excellent Seafood & Safe Driving
I had an excellent experience with my guide Eslam in Alexandria, Egypt. He was knowledgeable, well-organized, and explained the city’s history in a clear and engaging way. The tour covered the most important landmarks, including the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Qaitbay Citadel, and the beautiful Mediterranean Corniche, without feeling rushed. He also shared useful local tips that made the visit much more enjoyable.
We stopped at a fantastic seafood restaurant known for its fresh fish and traditional Alexandrian flavors. The food was high quality, well-prepared, and truly reflected the local cuisine.
The driver was extremely careful and diligent, always punctual and respectful, which made the entire trip feel safe and comfortable. Overall, this was a smooth, memorable experience and a great way to discover Alexandria. I highly recommend this guide and service to any tourist visiting the city.
