Description
Alcatraz is different at dusk. Crowds thin as the daytime visitors depart, and the island feels quieter, more isolated. This atmospheric, cultural experience begins in North Beach, SF’s “Little Italy.”
Here, your guide walks you through its historic streets. Inside Saints Peter and Paul Church, you’ll admire its Italian marble altar and hear about its connection to Joe DiMaggio. Along the way, your guide shares lesser-known views of Lombard Street, the Golden Gate Bridge, and more.
From there, head to Fisherman’s Wharf to greet the sea lions at Pier 39. Then your guide leads you to your Alcatraz ferry as you bid farewell and cruise across the bay. When you disembark, a ranger meets you and walks you up to the cellhouse. Explore at your own pace. Your ticket includes exclusive programs and access to areas closed during the day, including the hospital ward and solitary confinement.

Amanda was a wealth of...
Amanda was a wealth of knowledge on our walking tour!! I wish she could have accompanied us to Alcatraz and lead a tour on the island! The pace around north beach was perfect for all abilities. We learned many tidbits that we would not have gotten anywhere else. The evening ferry to Alcatraz was efficient and well-organized. The tour on the island is audio with headphones provided. One of our services stopped working midway through, but was able to catch up eventually. There are also a few live presentations, but we did not attend due to timing of the return ferry. The stories and history are so interesting!!

Tour was great! Knowledgeable about the city but not overwhelming. Great value. We got lucky and it was only my husband and I, felt like our own private tour. Highly recommend it!
Operator response

Thank you for sharing! We're so happy you and your husband had such a wonderful time exploring the city with us. It sounds like the smaller group made the experience even more special.
Your recommendation truly means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you both back for another memorable adventure in the future!
