This is one of the best museums in quality and diversity of the exhibits. Archeological exhibits include the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh – ‘wonderful’- in the native language),
St. George’s Cathedral is one of Addis Ababa’s most iconic and historically important churches. Built in traditional octagonal style, it was constructed to commemorate Ethiopia’s victory over the Italians at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. The cathedral is beautifully decorated with vibrant paintings and stained-glass artwork created by renowned Ethiopian artists, including Afewerk Tekle. Inside, visitors can explore the small museum showcasing royal crowns, ancient manuscripts, and historical artifacts connected to Emperor Haile Selassie and Empress Menen. The cathedral remains an active place of worship and a symbol of Ethiopian pride, culture, and Orthodox Christian heritage.
Merkato is one of Addis Ababa’s most vibrant and fascinating places to visit, known as the largest open-air market in Africa. It is a lively maze of thousands of shops and stalls, where visitors can experience the true energy of Ethiopian daily life. Here you can find everything from spices, coffee, traditional clothing, handmade crafts, and jewelry to household items and fresh produce. Each section specializes in different goods, making Merkato a unique cultural and commercial hub. Visitors often enjoy walking with a local guide who helps navigate the market’s busy pathways, share stories, and show hidden artisan workshops such as weaving, metalwork, and incense production. Merkato is not only a place to shop but also an authentic immersion into Ethiopia’s culture, traditions, and bustling urban life.
Entoto Mountain rises above Addis Ababa and offers some of the most beautiful panoramic views of the city. Located at an altitude of around 3,200 meters, it is considered the historical birthplace of modern Addis Ababa, where Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu first established their royal camp.
Your final stop is at Tomoca Coffee, Ethiopia’s oldest and most iconic coffee roastery, located at the historic Old Train Station. This beautifully restored site combines Ethiopia’s railway heritage with the rich aroma of freshly roasted Arabica coffee. Although it depends in part on the opinions and wishes of the people accompanying you, it is convenient to be able to quickly tour famous places in a short time. I was able to see into the basement of the church, an experience that would not be possible on an individual trip. I was also surprised by the insecurity of the market (that's the atmosphere). Weather depends on luck lol

Great tour for a short visit to Addis Ababa. I booked the tour very last minute - the communication with the company was really easy and pick up worked well. Our guides (Olinol and Kidus) and driver (Dani) were great! Very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Even taking us to get coffee beans at the end. Thanks for a wonderful introduction to Addis Ababa!

The tour itself is a very comprehensive experience to learn about the city for a layover. Guide Olinol is very knowledgeable and fluent in english and explains things really well.

This was an amazing tour. Our guide Mira and driver Abraham were kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I loved every part of it, but my favorites were the coffee house and the church. We skipped the market because it was pouring rain, but the view from Mt. Entoto was incredible. I truly enjoyed this and highly recommend.

Great tour. We had a few hours contesting flight at Addis Ababa, bird this your. Did not get to see everything due to tight connection and weather, but Oli tried to accommodate with substitutes the best. We had great time visiting the museum and the church! The coffee experience is interesting too. Very good overview about this city.

Oli is a super host and guide! Liyu tours too was very swift and kind in responding to my requests. along with the driver Daniel came over to pick me up at the transit hotel at 9am and took me around the city and sent me straight to the airport. I really enjoyed Oli’s guide throughout the tour, which educated me of the history, nature, culture and daily little things. Our half-day trip in Addis Ababa was a really wonderful experience. We did an Addis Ababa city tour as part of an over Ethiopia tour with Liyu Tours. Abe and Solomon were amazing guides and made for a really fun first day in Ethiopia and a great way to see the city. We visited the monastery, Entoto Hills, National Museum and Merkato. We also stopped for lunch at a very nice local restaurant. Abe and Solomon went out of their way to make sure all of us were having fun, and made a couple of additional stops as well for us as part of the tour. Highly recommend!

My guide Kidus is a wonderful young man, five hours of city tour rich, traditional coffee experience I liked, I was uncomfortable because of the night before not sleeping well, he was very competent to take me to the pharmacy to buy medicine, Overall, highly recommended

Although the guides were kind and helped us on some points, the tour was quite poor in explanation and "guidance". In the beginning, we did not have an explanation of the city or the places we passed through, the guides talked more to each other than they talked to us / introduced the city. The passage on Mount Entoto was very quick and summary..... In short, I did not feel like I had a guided tour of the city at all. Taking a taxi to the different points of the city would have cost me less for a service almost similar....
