I did the 3-day/2-night Inca Trail trek in early November and it was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. I did it with a friend and neither of us had ever done a multi-day hike but the Tierras Vivas team thought of everything and made it a very positive experience. We had 5 porters who carried all of the camping/cooking equipment and a duffel bag with some of our personal gear which made our day packs much easier to carry. Our cook, Mathias, whipped up some of the most delicious traditional Peruvian dishes I’ve ever eaten and it’s hard to believe how he was able to do it on the side of a massive mountain in the middle of nowhere. Last, but certainly not least, make sure you ask for Rolando as your guide. This was not only the most challenging, beautiful and rewarding hike I have ever done, but I also learned a ton about the ancient Inca civilization, modern Peruvian culture, as well as many of the plants and animals we saw along the way thanks to Rolando’s vast knowledge of the history, anthropology and biodiversity of the region. He was an amazing teacher, translator, historian, photographer, and friend and made the whole experience 10x better!

Tierras Vivas – 2-Day Inca Trail Tour with Sara We did the 2-day Inca Trail tour with Tierras Vivas, and it was simply amazing! Everything was very well organized – from the tickets and hotel to the pick-up and transportation. We took the train to Kilometer 104, near Aguas Calientes, and started our hike on the Inca Trail from there. The walk up to the Sun Gate was beautiful, and our guide Sara explained so much about the flora, fauna, and Inca history along the way. The hiking pace was perfect – relaxed but steady – so we could really enjoy the scenery. The highlight, of course, was Machu Picchu. Seeing it for the first time through the Sun Gate was breathtaking! Sarah took some great photos of us, and the next day we had fantastic weather for our full visit to the ruins. She gave us excellent explanations about how Machu Picchu was built and its historical meaning. The overnight stay in Aguas Calientes was also good and comfortable. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and we can highly recommend Tierras Vivas. A big thank you to Tierras Vivas and especially to Sarah– 100% recommended!

Niko was our guide and was absolutely fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about him. I was much slower than the rest of our group and he stayed with me the entire time, rooting me on and talking with me and sharing his knowledge. If you are thinking about doing this tour, get on a tour with Niko. The absolute best.

Unforgettable experience made by Nico and the team! Couldn’t recommend enough. The hike was challenging but rewarding, food was amazing. The trip was even better than Machu Pichu itself honestly.
This was one of the most unforgettable experiences I have ever done! The whole adventure with our tour guide Nico was amazing - he not only was very well knowledge but just a blast to be around! Highly recommend!
I had an incredible experience on my 2-day journey to Machu Picchu with my guide Nico. My favorite parts were learning about the flora and fauna of the region while trekking to different historical sites along the way, and then learning more deeply about the history of the Incas at each of the ruins we visited. The hike itself was very manageable: challenging at times but so rewarding. Nico made the journey fun and educational, and was extremely attentive to my needs and comfort level with the altitude, etc. Although I was on a solo trip, this experience allowed me to make new friends and connections on the way while appreciating a very special and sacred place in the world. 11/10 would recommend - and thanks for an unforgettable weekend, Nico (and to Judith for her expert coordination behind-the-scenes)! Until next time!
Nico Raul is the best guide you can find, but first of all he s such a great person, truly passionated for his job and able to transfer his passion to the people he brings around. We won’t forget the 48h spent with him!!!
The hike was beautiful with all the views. It was challenging, but the tour guide took all the time and had patience with our pace. He told us information about de views and also the flora and fauna. The Machu Pichu itself was beautiful and the guide had a lot of information to share. He also made lots of nice pictures of us.
It was an amezing experience! We realy loved the tour ofcourse but also our tour guide Nico. He was very patient en he knows everything about the flora, fauna and of course the Inca’s! The meals were fine and the train/bus rides were very structured!
We (husband and I) hiked the classic Inca trail to Machu Picchu, but in 2 nights, 3 days. Everything about this hike was amazing from start to finish! Nico, our tour guide was so knowledgeable and professional! He kept us feeling safe the entire way! He really is the best tour guide and knows everyone along the trail. It is evident he is highly respected and loved by all on the Inca trail! Chef, Leo made vegan meals for us and it was astounding to have multi-course delicious meals prepared multiple times a day on simple camping equipment! The porters were also professional and I’ve never seen such hard working men! It is incredible to see them move up and down the mountains carrying such heavy loads! They all took such good care of us, from proving hot water bottles for our sleeping bags to keep us warm at night, to bringing hot coca tea to our tent first thing every morning. It truly was an amazing experience!
