Our guide, Maria G, provided a wonderful introduction to Reykjavik! She has a strong knowledge of both the local food and the history. We enjoyed the various food stops and learning more about the origins of Icelandic food. Doing a private tour helped us get a better sense of the city and country and gave us an opportunity to spend time with such a warm guide. Highly recommend!
An amazing experience from start to finish. The tastings covered a broad range, from the fermented shark that I will never forget to the Icelandic hot dog that turned out to be my favorite thing all day. Every restaurant was expecting us and had things ready, and our guide Marie Hélène was warm and wonderfully informative throughout.
Stefan was an amazing tour guide! We learned so much about Icelandic culture (from the Icelandic Coast Guard to the Yule Lads to the “members” of the historic Olympic hand ball team) plus the food was phenomenal. Highly recommend this tour & guide!
Maria G. was a fabulous guide! She not only took us to many food places but also taught us so much about Iceland. Lots of fun and lots of food!
Stephon was amazing and excellent guide, all the restaurants recognized him and gave him premium service. Highly recommend booking direct with your friend from Reykjavik
Maria G. Was fantastic. She was the perfect blend of managing our food tour while sharing the historical references, showing us beautiful art and providing a personal touch. We feel like we got the Iceland food experience we wanted while enjoying a city tour. We would highly recommend her and the Food tour.
The food of iceland was very tasty, including the fermented shark (just kidding). Our tour guide, Day, was fantastic. He explained everything and made it fun!
Einar met us at the meeting spot and we were surprised to see it was a private tour. It was booked through a tour company so we didn't know much about what to expect. It was apparent early on that there had been miscommunication between the tour company and guide that one of us required dairy-free food, but this was quickly accommodated. Einar regaled us with stories and anecdotes while we visited several restaurants and enjoyed great food and drink. We would definitely recommend this tour and this guide. Having a small group (me, my husband, and the guide) was ideal. We were nimble and efficient, even if we did talk a lot! I felt like Einar went out of his way to ensure we had a positive experience.
The only reason I gave 2 stars, rather than 1 star, is because we liked the tour guide. But other than that, the time spent on our food tour was the most disappointing experience we had during our trip. I booked a private tour (spent lots of extra money) because my daughter and I are gluten free and I was told by the tour company that they would create a gluten free tour for us. Which did not happen!! At each place, we were offered gluten-free alternatives to the food that the rest of my family was eating. Which were very limited. I had lamb soup at two of the four stops. And at one of the stops, the famous hot dog stand, there were zero gluten free options!! Plus, the tour description said we would go to a super market and learn about the local foods and that we would end the tour with an Icelandic drink. Neither of these things happened!! And the tour was less than three hours, which was shorter than they described. This was a complete waste of time and money!! And I have been trying to get compensated for this, yet the tour company is unresponsive!!!
Dear Tracy We deeply apologize for this experience falling short of the standards we set for ourselves, and for our late response to your enquiries. We will be issuing a full refund and are reviewing our processes to make sure this does not happen again. Kindest regards Ingimar
Excellent private food tour with Stefan. Nice variety of food specialties. So much great food that we are skipping dinner. Stefan also offered and took great photos of us on the rainbow street.
