Even the best guide cannot guarantee a risk-free adventure! Emmanuele was a wonderful guide.
This was the first time my wife and I had used e-bikes. He explained how they worked and allowed us time to acclimate using them. He also went into detail explaining the terrain, which on the Appian Way, although flat was paved with large irregular shaped lava pavers. What he couldn’t control for was the fact that my shoes kept sliding off the pedals [I usually use cages and bike shoes]. Shortly before we transitioned to a more traditional surface, I bounced off a paver, and with both feet sliding off the pedals, causing me to land onto the ground and fall under the bike. Fortunately, I only suffered some cuts and bruises. We were able to walk to a bar, to get washed and bandaged up. We then proceeded to continue by car to the Castello Gandolfo and then ultimately returning to Rome by train. Throughout the trip, Emmanuele was supportive, helping us to safely accomplishing our goal of getting to the Castello.
Despite the fall, it was a positive experience overall. Our only recommendation to prospective clients would be to have some experience before e-biking on the Appian Way, and wear proper foot gear. The lesson learned however is, this should not be your “first rodeo” on an e-bike!!

Book this unique bike trip with Alessio!
We had an absolutely fantastic day cycling from Rome along the Appian Way to Castel Gandolfo and back, and Alessio made the experience unforgettable.
His knowledge of the history, culture, and landmarks along the route was exceptional, bringing the ancient Appian Way to life with fascinating stories and insights. He struck the perfect balance between being informative, engaging, and fun, while always making sure everyone in the group felt comfortable and safe.
The ride itself was beautiful, with stunning scenery, ancient ruins, and spectacular views around Lake Albano. Alessio’s enthusiasm for Rome and its history was contagious, and his passion for sharing it made the experience so much more meaningful.

Back in Time
Fun and informative day rain or shine! Great guide! The aqueduct park was sensational. A few more busy roads than we were expecting as we did the full tour up to Gandolfo and the lake but all and all a wonderful day!

Biking the Appian Way with Emanuele
We had an absolute perfect ending to our Roman holiday spending the day with our guide Emanuele biking the Appian Way to Castle Gandolfo. The bikes were quality e-bikes and very comfortable. Emanuele was super knowledgeable and a great guy. We highly recommend this tour!

Excellent e-bike tour of the Appian Way!
Alessio was a wonderful guide. He has a great knowledge of the history of the Appian Way and the Roman Aqueduct. We thoroughly enjoyed the guided bike tour to Castel Gandolfo.
