I have had the most pleasant experience of hiring Salkantay Trail Peru for the tour of the Apu Tutelar mountain range of the Andean worldview, the imposing Ausangate. From the beginning, Erika Ocampo’s professional service, the expedition plan and the invaluable guidance of Hernán Quispe, muleteer of the village of Tinke, with whom I shared unforgettable experiences during the 5 days of tour. All perfect and very well guided and provided with everything necessary for this hard, but wonderful geographical and spiritual experience. I am an adventure traveler and extreme sports practitioner, I have done for decades of this life, great expeditions in the Andes and Patagonia, where I have had the success of making many friendships from 5 continents and to all those who warn me come to Cusco, I recommend the professional services of Erika and Salkantay Trail Peru and this experience with them has been one of the top!

The trek to Ausangate was awesome! Erica helped me resolve all questions I had and organized the perfect trek. My guide Basilio had great knowledge of the route and made all of us feel safe and his English was great. One thing that I especially liked was that Erica asked us beforehand if we had dietary restrictions and what food we would like to have, the food was an incredible experience! I wholeheartedly recommend you to book with Erica.

On August 4, 2024 we hired a 5-day tour with Salkantay Trail Peru. This tour was supposed to include 4 full-days doing the Ausangate Trek, and on the fifth day, a two-hour ascent from the Arapa Pass to the Mountain of Colors and the descent through the Red Valley, where a tourist van would pick us up to take us back to Cusco. However, on the night of the first day, the Guide – Hernan Quispe Crispín – indicated that the contracted route was impossible and that we had to choose between the Mountain of Colors and the Arapa Pass, but under no circumstances could the two walks take place, contradicting what was agreed in the agency with Mrs. Erika Ocampo Miranda. We were forced to choose the second option and give up part of the contracted program. On the fourth day it took only three hours to get to the next camp. We then expressed our displeasure to the Guide and requested a taxi to return to Cusco. He told us that was impossible. On the fifth day, in flagrant breach of contract, we simply walked to the Guide's house on a track. Once there, the guide contacted Mrs. Érika to convey our dissatisfaction with the situation generated by herself. After that conversation, Mrs. Érika offered transportation to the Mountain of Colors. We reject this offer, since, in addition to the intrinsic breach of what was agreed, the transport to the mountain of colors would have meant a trip of more than three hours from where we were and it would have been impossible to make the trek from the Mountain of Colors to the end of the route of the Red Valley for reasons of time. On the 10th we went to the agency to request the refund of half the amount paid (1200 soles) due to the breach of what was agreed. Mrs Érika refused and we were obliged to seek assistance from a Tourist Police officer. Mrs Erika also refused to provide us with the claim book. We have processed the complaint through Indecopi - consumer protection office - demanding reimbursement of 50% of what was paid as compensation. Bottom line: we do not recommend this agency for its lack of professionalism.

We read that Salkantay Trekking was the number 1 tour group to Machu Picchu and we were not disappointed. We were impressed with the tour's ability to cater to our dietary needs (vegan) and provide exceptional meals. We would go back in a heartbeat!
