We had an absolutely fantastic day on this tour! Our guide, Chris, was wonderful—friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and so patient throughout the entire trip (even when my group got a little slaphappy). He paced the day perfectly, making just the right amount of stops and always keeping us updated on upcoming restroom breaks, which made traveling completely stress-free. The itinerary was exceptionally well-rounded. We got to experience the stunning moors, the beautiful dales, lovely blooming flowers, a charming seaside town, a historic steam train, and iconic Harry Potter filming locations. On top of everything promised, Chris even treated us to a few extra surprises that weren’t on the official itinerary, which made the experience feel truly special. I cannot recommend this tour enough. If you’re visiting York and looking for an effortless, memorable way to get out and explore the countryside for the day, this is a must-do!

Chris was friendly, fun, and informative! A great experience from beginning to end. We were picked up on time and driven comfortably through lovely villages up into the moors. Stops were plentiful for bio-breaks, photo ops, and coffee/snacks. Whitby was fun. Chris helpfully dropped us at the Abbey so the walk back to the village center was easy. His lunch spot recommendation was just perfect. We enjoyed the steam train from Goathland to Pickering was pleasant. A must for train enthusiasts. Chris gave great ideas for photo opportunities too. The drive back to York was also delightful with a surprising stop at the Augustinian ruin at Kirkham. A great, great day!

Chris was amazing. Great communication, full of local knowledge, excellent driving, very flexible and helpful. The Moors were stunning in September with all of the heather in bloom. The abbeys and steam train were beautiful and there were frequent stops for pictures, breaks, little bits of local information. Nice van, helped with wheelchair for my 90-year old mother when we were in Whitby.

We booked hoping to get on the steam train with grandchildren for them to experience, but it was not running due to drought and fire risk.. that fair enough, but was disappointed as not told before booking. Anyhow, the trip is still amazing, took about hour and half to get to Pickering. Prob a bit long for the active 6 and 7 year olds who need entertaining so take things to do. Nice for the adults to take in the scenery and stop off at stations.

Chris was our driver. The van was clean and comfortable. The other guests (7 of us in total) were very nice and we all got along very well. Whitby was a great place for lunch and touring. But, Chris was the one that made all this happen smoothly!

Our guide Pete was very friendly and knowledgeable, it made for a great day out! Learnt some interesting things and seen some beautiful places, highly recommend!

I had an amazing time on the "Steam Trains, Whitby & the Moors" tour I took with Grand Yorkshire. It was honestly a highlight of my whole time in Yorkshire. The whole trip was good, but I have to give a special shout-out to the driver who accommodated my request for a detour to a nearby attraction that was on my list but I was struggling to figure out how to get to without a car. Truly above and beyond! Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made our adventure through the moors very memorable. I especially liked the small group (only 7 people), which made it feel very personal. I was traveling alone and enjoyed feeling part of a group for the day. Everyone was friendly and up for a chat. This is the only tour I took, so I can't compare, but I would absolutely do another tour with Grand Yorkshire, and would recommend this one to anyone who is on the fence.

The steam train journey was excellent. The minivan trip around the moors was interesting and informative. Our guide was thoughtful and considerate and did his best to answer our questions. His love of his county and community was apparent. We recommend this day trip. One consideration is the size of the minivan. It is a tad on the small side but this did not affect our enjoyment of the day. A very pleasant day out.

I didn't anticipate receiving such personalised service for the price. Chris is available for questions before and during the outing which included a pick up from our airbnb. The vehicle accommodates 7 people, is very comfortable and we all moved seats during the course of the day. The drive took us through beautiful villages and scenery with good stops that were the right timing. Took advice from Chris about lunch in Whitby and had a really delicious sole in butter and lemon. Friends enjoyed yummpy fried fish. The station and the train were interesting and step back in time. Only disappointment was the scenery on the train journey - but it didn't last long. Chris struck a really good balance between talking and just letting us taking in the experience.

Our experience was great. Chris was informative and a safe driver. He has many years of experience and knows the area well.
