Tour guide really brings the story’s to life and does a great job of engaging the attendees with fun facts and humour

As a visitor from Texas with a lifelong love of British history, Mad Alice’s Bloody Tour was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to York. Mad Alice has the rare gift of making centuries of history come alive with incredible storytelling, quick wit, and just the right amount of delightfully bawdy humor. She had us laughing one minute and hanging on every word the next as we wandered through York’s ancient streets learning about Vikings, Romans, plague, executions, and all the wonderfully grim events that make York such a fascinating city. What impressed me most was how much genuine history was woven into the entertainment. This isn’t just a comedy act. it’s an interesting history lesson delivered by someone who clearly knows and loves the city. The irreverent jokes never overshadow the stories; they make them even more memorable. Mad Alice had the entire group involved, regardless of age or where they were from, and somehow made complete strangers feel like we were all in on the joke together. If you’re visiting York and only have time for one evening activity, make it this tour. Wear comfortable shoes, bring your sense of humor, and don’t be afraid if you blush a little. She talked about my “bits”! You’ll leave entertained, better informed, and with a deeper appreciation for one of England’s greatest historic cities. Five stars simply aren’t enough. Bloody brilliant!

My husband, sister, niece and I joined Mad Alice for her 6pm tour. We were exceptionally impressed by her charisma, engaging style of story telling and phenomenal ability to personalise her tour by including the attendees from start to finish. Mad Alice made a point of speaking 1:1 with everyone who attended, remembering our names and where we'd visited from, and somehow including this in her storytelling. She was clearly very passionate about the stories she shared, and extremely knowledgeable about York and its history. A really fantastic 90 mins, which we thoroughly enjoyed and would 10/10 recommend.

Mad Alice was an excellent tour guide. Very informative and amusing. How on earth she remembers everyone's name, I don't know, but would highly recommend her tour to anyone taking a trip to York. It was the perfect way to spend a first evening in the city.

We booked onto Mad Alice's tour based on previous reviews on TripAdvisor, and so we had high hopes. However, these were completely blown away by Mad Alice; this tour was absolutely brilliant. Mad Alice is absolutely amazing; so knowledgeable about the bloody history of York, she made every single person there feel very welcome, and was able to remember everyone's name, no mean feat with such a large group!! Honestly, this was without doubt the best tour I've ever been on, and I will happily book back with Mad Alice for any future trips to York. If this is your kind of thing, I highly recommend booking in with Mad Alice. You will not be disappointed.

It was absolutely incredible. We had already a few expectations based on the reviews online that said the tour was excellent but the guide still managed to exceed them. It was such a funny and brilliant experience. The only problem is that I don’t think we will ever manage to go on a tour as good as this one.
