This tour is designed primarily for visitors who have limited time in Bergen and want to experience several of the region’s highlights in one day without having to rent a car or organise multiple transport connections themselves. As clearly described before booking, it is a full-day tour combining travel by bus, fjord cruise and train. Travellers who have a car and several days available to explore Western Norway independently may naturally prefer a completely different way of travelling – but this is simply not an option for everyone. We would, however, like to clarify a few points in your review. Nærøyfjord was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List because of its exceptional natural landscape and geological features – certainly not to justify the creation of a tourist route. Gudvangen is also not a place created to encourage tourists to visit the Viking Village. It is a historic settlement where people have lived for centuries, including during the Viking Age, and people still live there today. Its location at the end of the Nærøyfjord has also made it an important local transport junction, connecting the fjord with the surrounding valleys and mountain routes. Today, Gudvangen is the departure point for the Nærøyfjord cruise, and the time spent there is determined by the connection between our bus and the scheduled boat departure – not by an intention to push guests into spending money at the Viking Village. The Viking Village is an optional attraction, and guests are entirely free to visit it or simply enjoy their time in Gudvangen before the cruise. The Flåm Railway also has considerably more history behind it than simply transporting tourists. Construction began in the 1920s, and 18 of its 20 tunnels were excavated largely by hand. The railway was built to connect the Sognefjord region with the Bergen–Oslo railway at Myrdal, overcoming an elevation difference of around 860 metres over approximately 20 km. The tunnels, steep gradient and engineering required to build the line are an important part of the experience. As for the performance at Kjosfossen, it is inspired by the Norwegian legend of Huldra, a supernatural woman associated with the mountains and forests. We completely understand that such a performance will appeal to some visitors more than others. Ultimately, travel preferences are very personal. Exploring Norway independently by car can be a wonderful experience, but not everyone can or wants to do so. For visitors with only one day available, or those who do not wish or are unable to drive in Norway, this tour offers the opportunity to experience Nærøyfjord, the Flåm Railway and several other locations in a single day. A 13-hour tour involving several different means of transport will naturally not suit everyone. This is why we provide information about the duration, itinerary, stops and means of transportation before booking, and we always encourage guests to read these details carefully to make sure that the experience matches their preferred way of travelling.

In Norway, there is only one train operator, and during the high season reserved seats are often assigned throughout the train and are not always in the most desirable locations. For this reason, we choose to offer our guests the flexibility to select any available seats on the Bergen–Myrdal train rather than assigning fixed seats in advance. The second part of the journey, on the historic Flåm Railway, operates with unreserved seating for all passengers, regardless of ticket type. That said, the comfort of our guests is always our top priority. Based on feedback like yours, we have reviewed this part of the tour and, from August onwards, we have introduced a more suitable seating solution for the Bergen–Myrdal train journey to make the experience even smoother. Regarding the train seating, we understand that having to change seats was inconvenient. In fact, we recently made the decision not to reserve seats on the trains and instead allow our guests to choose their own seats when boarding. The reason for this is that on the Vy train between Bergen and Myrdal, reserved seats do not always guarantee a window view and can sometimes be automatically allocated in the family/children's zone. We found that many guests preferred the flexibility of selecting seats themselves. As for the Flåm Railway between Myrdal and Flåm, all seating is unreserved for everyone, so passengers are free to choose any available seat.
