Chef Mikel was an Excellent Teacher!

We truly enjoyed our time with Chef Mikel at the Gastronómica Cooking School. We learned so much about cutting vegetables properly and how to cook basque specialities. The meal was plentiful and wine free flowing - 2 Tcokolinas and a Tempernillo We cooked a full meal with pintxos, bread, salad, cheese and salame, fish stew delicious!!! - full ribeye steak, peppers and an amazing and award winning bread pudding-like dessert. Chef Mikel was fun, gave great tips and made the time go by so quickly. We highly recommend his classes!!

A must-do hands on cooking experience

Our Chef, Mikel, was warm, fun and instructive. He made sure we participated in every step, and understood what to look for to ensure recipe success. I was interested in an additional dish we weren't making which Mikel was preparing to make after class for another event. He started making it while our group sat down to enjoy the meal we just made. Mikel was so kind and attentive, calling me over to the kitchen to observe the dish being made and sharing his tips. He even emailed me the additional recipe! The entire class experience was amazing! If back in Bilbao, we will definitely take another class with Mikel!

Pintxo cooking class in Bilbao

I got to the class knowing nobody, on vacation in Bilbao. There were 4 other participants 2 sisters from Wales and a couple from England. Mikel was a great instructor and the other students were competent cooks. We each had our own work station and did mostly the same prep work and pintxo assembly. I will probably recreate 3 of the 5 dishes at home. We also got to sample some local wine, which paired well with the pintxos.

Fabulous food and wine experience

Fabulous host and experience where you learn all about the ingredients, Basque history, wine, how to cook such flavoursome food. Really personal.

Such a fun experience to learn about basque culture and cooking. Mikel was brilliant, patient and very educational. Everything we helped creat was delicious, light and filling (in the best way). 10/10 recommend!

Exceptional cooking class

Wonderful way to learn, hands on, different cooking techniques, about the region, it's food and it's wine. The Chef Mikal had a wealth of knowledge and information. All delivered with humor and clarity.

A great culinary experience

We were the only couple at the session but this gave us a great opportunity itu to quiz the chef and learn a lot of tips and information about Basque food and cooking for future use. Mikel’s enthusiasm shone through and he was a knowledgeable and excellent teacher. The school ihS a lovely kitchen, too. We cooked a delicious meal of many courses and enjoyed excellent wine from small vineyards.

Food heaven directed by Mikel.

Mikel really explained everything well and we had his guide to make our fabulous lunch. All fingers still intact despite being plied with lots of wine and an amazing meal cooked by us both. Gilda pintxos, chorizo, fish casserole, and the best steak ever with salad, French /basque cheesecake style toast. Wow And recipes sent to you too. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Mikel has an amazing story to tell of his career too. Thanks for a fab day.

Great, fun way to learn about Basque cooking!

The pacing of the class was great. Mikel explained everything well as we went along. We made a traditional pintxo (Gilda), had chorizo and fresh, amazing bread, a tuna and potato stew and for the main we had steak, a piquillo pepper relish leafy green salad. Paired with wines and cider all along. For dessert we had a basque toast. Everything was delicious. Great conversation was had among the participants in the class.
