What a great walking tour in York. We learned so much history about York that we didn't know. Was a great walking tour. Would highly recommend to take this tour.
John was an excellent, fun, and highly knowledgeable tour guide in York. His love of the city and its history was evident. He told us many entertaining stories and "read the walls" for us -- the history of York through the ruined walls of Roman, Norman, and Medieval architecture. He mixed in the origins of the Christmas dates and rituals that we know today, given we were touring on December 19. And taught us much more about Vikings than we ever knew before, including facts about their non-patriarchal society that valued the skills and intellect of women, even as warriors, just as they valued those of men.
John was a brilliant guide. So informative and entertaining. Made the history come alive while still giving a wonderful insight into modern York.
We learned about the Roman and Viking history of York as we walked around. John was very knowledgeable and had a lovely sense of humour.
I love walking around the City Walls, the perfect way to soak up some sunshine and get the best views across the city. There is plenty of information on boards as you go, just note the stairs in some places are a little steep and the walls narrow-reasonable mobility required.
Such a brilliant morning spent touring York! Well worth the money for a private tour. The tour guide made the trip fun and interesting. Plenty of history sprinkled with fun. Highly recommended!
