This calligraphy class was an awesome experience and so much more than I expected! I learned not only the art of Japanese calligraphy, but also how it can support mental and physical well-being through focus, breathing, posture, and intentional movement. I loved learning about calligraphy’s Chinese origins, how it evolved within Japanese culture, and that it is still a required subject for students in primary and junior high school. We also learned fascinating traditions, like orange ink being reserved for teachers and the traditional process of making black ink by hand. My favorite part was learning how to write my name in Japanese and creating my own final piece. I chose “Purpose of Life” in Japanese and added my name—a piece I’ll proudly hang in my home as a reminder of this experience. Such a meaningful and immersive way to experience Japanese culture. Definitely recommend!

Mei is a highly skillful and patient tutor! Her expertise and passion wee evident throughout the session. She really gives 100% and it was a true privilege to have taken my first Japanese calligraphy class with her :)

We had such a great time! Kiyo was a brilliant and welcoming teacher who taught us so much about the history and culture around calligraphy aswell as helping us create our own. Would definitely recommend to anyone considering it!

I did the calligraphy course with instructor Mei. She explained the Japanese writing and the three alphabets as well as the importance of Calligraphy in Japanese culture, before practicing how to write the strokes correctly and letting me choose a phrase I wanted to write. Thanks to her I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. It was a great experience and unlike other Calligraphy classes I tried you even get to learn how to do the strokes so that they look beautiful. I can only recommend this experience

This was such an amazing experience. This memory will truly last me a lifetime! Our instructor Mei was absolutely sweet and patient with us while we learned how to practice our calligraphy. I simply cannot thank her enough for spending this time with us. I would love to return in the future!
