I was the only student during my time slot. Teacher Shiina taught me a little about Japanese knives, and good knife sharpening technique. The result was very very sharp, slice easily through paper. Then I used hot iron to burn Sakura flowers into knife handle. I am very happy with the result and experience. Shiina is delightful and a good teacher.
We really enjoyed the experience though we found the venue a little hard to find. The knife sharpening was educational and fun. When it came to labelling the handle (pyrography) my name provided some issues in translation so I settled on "Ojiisan".
Guides Engkish was very American friendly.

We had a wonderful time learning the history of knives in Japan, sharpening our own knives and engraving them for the perfect keepsake to finish off our honeymoon.
