Neil is a superb guide that did a great job highlighting all the historical facts of Roman times York. And he added extra important historical facts from other eras along the way. Excellent guide and strongly recommended. And, yes, he does dress like a Roman soldier like you see in the picture!

Thank you so much for the glowing 5-star review, Alvaro! It was an absolute pleasure to take you and Cindy round the beautiful city I call home.
And thank you for sharing that wonderful picture of us all. I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your holiday, and I hope I get to take you both around York in the future; Vikings next, yes?!
All the best,

Fun, informative and great value!
We loved this! The guide was so full of genuine love for what he was doing, and his city, it was like being shown around their hometown, by a really enthusiastic mate, who also knew loads about history. Winner! We went everywhere and yet it all felt very quick and fun. Even the teens enjoyed it! He has such an amazing knowledge of the history of York and was so keen to get us all involved. It was like theatre and amazing for the price too. A highlight.

Incredible! A MUST DO in York! You will not be disappointed!
This tour is an absolute MUST when visiting York. Of all the tours we went on during our entire one month stay in England, this was by far our favorite as it was the most entertaining and the most informative. Neil is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell that he absolutely loves what he does. He makes sure to take you to all the must sees in York and gives you a fun and accurate story about each place. He is a fountain of knowledge on the history of York! We loved that he dressed like a Roman centurion and our kids were so excited to take pictures with him. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and didn’t want the tour to end.
I promise, this tour is worth every penny! There is nothing else like it! You will leave EXTREMELY satisfied with all the things you’ll learn regarding the amazing history of York.
Neil, you are wonderful! Thank you for making our trip to York so enjoyable and memorable!

A wonderful walk thru history
Walking through York’s Roman past on this tour is a genuine treat for all ages. It blends fun storytelling with hands‑on history, turning ancient ruins and hidden archaeological gems into something kids and adults can enjoy together. Neil keeps the pace relaxed and engaging, sprinkling in quirky facts, dramatic moments, and plenty of chances to ask questions. Whether you’re tracing the old fortress walls or discovering how everyday Romans lived in York, the whole experience feels both informative and adventurous — a brilliant way for families to explore the city’s oldest roots.

Fascinating walk through Roman york
The Roman tour was excellent, packed with information that was varied and peppered with humour! There was never too far between stops, and we took the chance to see the Roman Bath Museum at the end, which was a nice addition. Well worth the time and money, and Neil was generous with his time for pictures and answering questions.

A favourable wind blows
“If one does not know to which port he is sailing, no wind is favourable."
Thoroughly enjoyed this new walking tour. There are an abundance of them in the city so it takes a lot to stand out, and this did. Neil is a warm, friendly and engaging guide with deep knowledge and passion for the history he covers on this route. It was a really fun experience and I learned a lot, including terminology and some facts that really brought our surroundings to life.
The tour points connected well from one to the next, forming an intriguing journey and accompanying story. It was easy to follow both physically and mentally (a bit vigorous for me but Neil happily adjusts to the group). There were enough interesting features in the surroundings to look at and imagine the history that was being narrated imposed on those settings, including the River Ouse and York Walls. Lots of opportunities for good photos. The geography of the storytelling was nice and clear and linked to even more places you could walk to outside the tour. There was some really nice flavour to the history from the details thrown in, and the authentic costume.
The group was fairly small, which allowed for an intimate atmosphere and more time for questions. The tour lasted roughly 2.5 hours and was enjoyable throughout. The cost was very reasonable for such an insightful, flavoursome experience.
Visiting the Roman Baths museum was a perfect way to round off for the more able and curious (it’s down some ancient stone steps). I've lived here twenty years and never been down, and I'm glad I got to see it. I’m now hoping to catch his Viking Walk too.

To do right away!
As a Roman, I couldn't miss this guided tour, and thank goodness I didn't!
Fantastic experience that I would do again and again. Neil is a wonderful storyteller, and it is clear that he is truly passionate about what he does. We started from the museum gardens, a park in the center of York that has a long history, where we stopped for about 30 minutes. Here, Neil introduced us to Roman York (Eboracum!) and showed us various points of interest and many anecdotes. Then we moved further toward the center and walked along a section of the famous walls that surround the city. We toured the cathedral (watch out for ghosts 🤭) and finished in front of the statue of Constantine. Finally, Neil took us to a pub called The Roman Bath, which is also a museum. The entrance was included in the tour ticket price and it was truly worth it.
Please keep in mind that the tour is in English!
Fascinating experience, which guide Neil made super interesting, full of anecdotes but above all, incredibly fun! I know he also has a Viking tour that I will definitely book.
Thank you, Neil!

Great trip around Roman York
Was expecting a group tour for myself and my wife but we were lucky enough to have basically a private tour as no one else had booked this morning.
Neil knew his stuff, was very friendly and easy to listen and learn about York in Roman times.
We had looked around York prior but Neil seemed to put the area into perspective as he showed us around. Tour ended up in the Bath complex under the Roman Bath Pub.
Very interesting and could have listened to Neil for much longer than the 2 hours.

Excellent informative tour.
A great way to learn about the Roman history of York. We went as a couple but there were families enjoying it too. We were pleasantly surprised to be shown places we didn't know were there even after visiting York several times. Neil kept the tour interesting and we also really enjoyed the Roman Baths.
