Itinerary

Ieper (Ypres)
120 min

Discover the historic city of Ypres, the symbolic heart of the Western Front. Visit the medieval city center and the powerful In Flanders Fields Museum, where interactive exhibits and personal stories bring the history of World War I to life. You will also have time for a short break or lunch before continuing the journey.

Menin Gate Memorial
60 min

Visit the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, one of the most important World War I monuments in Belgium. Your guide will explain its significance and the names engraved on its walls. If your tour ends in the evening, you will witness the moving Last Post Ceremony at 8 PM — a daily tribute to the fallen soldiers.

Tyne Cot Cemetery
45 min

Visit the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world. Located near Passchendaele, Tyne Cot is the resting place of nearly 12,000 soldiers and features a striking wall inscribed with the names of the missing. Your guide will share personal stories and explain the importance of this site to the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917
Admission included60 min

Discover the brutal reality of trench warfare at the Passchendaele Museum. Visitors will explore reconstructed trenches, interactive exhibits, and authentic artifacts that bring the Battle of Passchendaele to life. A powerful and immersive experience.

Vladslo German War Cemetery
30 min

Visit the solemn Vladslo German War Cemetery, the final resting place of over 25,000 German soldiers. This site is known for the haunting sculpture “The Grieving Parents” by Käthe Kollwitz, created in memory of her own son, Peter, who died in battle. A place of deep emotion, this cemetery invites reflection on the human cost of war.

Flanders Field American Cemetery
45 min

The only American World War I cemetery in Belgium. This beautifully maintained site honors 368 fallen American soldiers and features a chapel with stained glass and engraved maps. It is a place of reflection and quiet remembrance for U.S. visitors.

Saint Julien Memorial

This powerful Canadian monument marks the site where poison gas was first used on the Western Front. The statue of the “Brooding Soldier” honors the bravery of Canadian troops who held the line during the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915.

Hooge Crater Museum
30 min

Hooge Crater marks the location of underground mine explosions used in trench warfare. The area changed hands multiple times and became one of the most heavily contested and destroyed sectors near Ypres.

Polygon Wood Cemetery
30 min

Polygon Wood was the site of intense fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. Today it is a peaceful forest with cemeteries and memorials honoring soldiers from several nations who fought and fell here.

Sanctuary Wood Museum
Admission included30 min

Hill 62 offers one of the rare places where original WWI trenches are still visible today. This strategic ridge was fiercely fought over because it provided commanding views over Ypres and surrounding battlefields.

Essex Farm Cemetery

Good day despite our guide

Good experience overall. The guide in Ypres was a bit rusty as it was his first tour after a break of 2+ years. His jokes were also a bit crude for our taste. Might just have been us but he made a few derogatory jokes about women and he also referred to his testicles on several occasions.

Excellent WWI tour.

Excellent WWI tour. The trenches are an absolute must see and made a lasting impression on us. Our guide was very friendly and even dropped us off at the restaurant we requested after the tour. A great day overall.

A Tour We Will Remember

This was a serious and emotional day, but also one of the most valuable parts of our trip to Belgium. Everything was organised respectfully and professionally.

Cemeteries and trenches and battlefields

We booked the World War I private tour in the hopes of finding my husband‘s two great uncles burial sites who were buried in the German cemeteries, our local guide Nikolai made this happen. We were so pleased. We also tour trenches, battlefields, and passchendaele Museum. Nikolai was knowledgable and an unbiassed tour guide and we would highly recommend his services. Our driver Theo was an excellent driver and added to our great day.

We had a wonderful day...

We had a wonderful day out with our guide Nikolai Visiting the actual sites, trenches, cemeteries and various museums was moving and was a reminder to us of what occurred and the lives lost during this period. The daily living conditions and hardships were evident in the multiple photographs and stories in the areas.

It was one of the best tours we ever had

Nikolai was our personal guide. What a wonderful day we had. Since we are from Canada, the company allowed us to visit memorials that were not included in the original tour. The Passendale Museum is probably the best war museum we have ever been to. Also the restaurant our guide recommended in the city of Ippre was wonderful.
