Itinerary
At first we will visit the modern "Kanakis" olive oil factory to learn about the process of olive oil production and taste the finest Cretan olive oil. The first thing we see when we arrive there is an ancient olive tree, more than one thousand years old. We continue to the innovative olive mill where all production steps and details are described thoroughly by our experts. As during the summer season there is no olive oil production we will not have the chance to see the production in live action but we will get full explanation by the experts. In the last part we can taste two different ways serving of the exquisite, extra virgin olive oil: we will try it pure first, with no adding, and then we will taste the old fashion, traditional way with salt and lemon. Little secrets on storage, best use and healthy attributes can be discussed as well.
After a 10' drive we will reach one of the best wineries of the region where we will enjoy a 30-40' tour, during which, participants will learn about the history, tradition, the latest developments in the production of wine and of course all information on the particular characteristics of the Cretan “terroir”. You will participate in a fully guided tour of the plantations of the winery, the cellar, the production area and finally their shop. After the tour, we will continue to the wine tasting room, where you will be able to taste five types of wine and train your palates on the delicious wine paths. Of course, mezedes like traditional rusks and olives couldn’t be missed to accompany this tasting journey.
Finally we will visit the small and beautiful Nipos or Vryses village in order to finish our day. The tour will be finished with a coffee or even better a glass of raki or the Cretan "limoncello", accompanied by a traditional light meal discussing and remembering your favorite moments of the day.

Wonderful. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and pleasant, and made visiting an already beautiful place a joyful experience.
We had a great time on the small group private tour to the olive oil factory and vineyard! The tour ended with a traditional lunch at a taverna in a small village nearby. Vincent was very knowledgeable and engaging.
Thank you for your great review
Nora was a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable guide. We loved learning about the process of making olive oil, and loved tasting the beautiful products. The producers were so proud of their product and had a lot of knowledge to share. The wines were delicious and the winery is a gorgeous place to spend some hours. The penultimate stop was a restaurant in a little village, the food was outstanding and the family that operates the restaurant are incredibly warm and inviting. The conversation throughout the day was free-ranging and we were able to learn a lot about Crete and the culture here. We would recommend a tour with this guide and this company to anyone.
Thank you for your taking time to write this beautif review. We are glad to know that you had a great time with our guide Nora. We hope to see you again
Excellent tour with a fantastic guide Nora. She was super knowledgeable and made us feel very welcomed. The olive oil factory and the winery were remarkable! The only reason I am not giving a 5 star review is because of the surprise 50euros for hotel pick up. The website indicated you will be charged the fee only if your hotel is more than 10km from pick up point in Rethymno but no mention of where the pick up point is. Once I confirmed the trip and it stated we will be picked up at the hotel I assumed that there was no fee as is the case with every single trip I booked through TripAdvisor. It was not until the near end of the trip that we were told there is a charge. If I had known that, we would have drove to a designated pick up location as we had a car. Please state clearly where the pick up location will be to avoid a pick up fee in the future.
Dear Komal, Thank you very much for your review. We are happy to hear that you had a great time with our guide Nora. Regarding the pick up fees, we have sent you the cost for the pick up from your hotel by mail on June 18th, mail you answered. So for us, it meant you read it and so, you were aware about the charge. We never charge customers without advertising them. Thank you once again for your review.
It was a perfect day with perfect guide Vincent. We enjoyed it all the way. Very well organized trip. Thank you so much for making out day special👍
Thank you for this 5 stars review
Such a delightful tour! Vincent was a fabulous, knowledgeable guide. We had a lovely time and learned a lot about olive oil making, wines, and the history and culture of Crete. Our tour was topped off with an incredibly delicious lunch at a hidden gem in the mountains. We highly recommend this tour!
Thank you for your beautiful review
Vincent gave our family a day to remember forever. We were promptly picked up at the hotel and didn't have to think about a thing. He was very outgoing and knowledgeable. We learned all about the olive oil process and tasted different varieties. All we had to do was relax and enjoy. Vincent felt like a part of our group, seamlessly leading us on our journey. During the wine tasting, we discovered the intricacies of the wine farm and their specialties in wine and food pairing. Later, we savored a delicious, authentic Cretan lunch at a hidden gem of a taverna in the mountains. You will not regret taking this tour.
Thank you for your 5 stars review. We are glad that you had a great time with our guide Vincent and liked our experience.
This was an experience we will never forget. The wine and food was wonderful. If you want to experience the best that Crete has to offer, book this excursion.
Thank you for your kind words. We are happy to know that you had a great time.
This tour was so incredible! We opted for the private tour with a pickup and drop off at our hotel. Our tour guide Michael (Mixalis) was great!! He was so knowledgeable of Cretan and Greek history and we learned so much on the tour. He also made it so much fun for us and it felt like we were traveling around the island with our friend. The olive at the olive mill was delicious and we got to taste some Raki as well. The winery was stunning and the wine was also so good. Our final stop was lunch in a village at the base of some mountains with some beautiful views. It was overall a wonderful day and we definitely HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone visiting Crete!
Thank you for your beautiful review. We are glad to know that you had a great time with our guide Michalis and enjoyed your experience
Delightful day with an experienced guide through olive oil tasting at the Kanakis Olive Mill and wine tasting at Dourakis Winery. Vincent provided knowledgeable background during our walk through the olive oil mill and processing facility and shared stories of his time working in the olive orchards (very physical work). We enjoyed his stories about life on Crete and background on the history, culture and lifestyle of the people of Crete. An experienced hiker (and hiking tour guide), he gave us great information about the outdoor activities in the area; and then led us on an enjoyable and very scenic hike. Vincent took us for lunch at a lovely local taverna (well-off the beaten path) where we had a delicious meal of grilled lamb and pork, fava bean salad and Greek salad-wonderful white table wine and Mythos Greek beer. The meal was topped off by the traditional complimentary dessert and raki (distilled alcohol) shots. We loved our day with Vincent and very much enjoyed his company-we highly recommend his tours for history, culture, and hiking.
Thank you so much for your kind words :)
