West Side Private Full Day Tours around Madeira Island

We had an absolutely fantastic private West Madeira tour with Madeira Tours by Diogo, and our guide for the day was Ricardo, Diogo’s brother. From start to finish, Ricardo was brilliant. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and informative, but what really stood out was how relaxed and personal the whole day felt. It genuinely felt more like spending the day with a friend who happened to know Madeira inside out than being on a formal organised tour. We visited Câmara de Lobos, Cabo Girão and the glass viewing platform, Ribeira Brava, Fanal Forest, Seixal, Ribeiro da Janela, Porto Moniz and several beautiful waterfalls, with lots of extra information and interesting stops along the way. We had lunch in Porto Moniz at Restaurante Cachalote, where we had the local black scabbardfish with banana, seafood rice and salad, which was delicious. Ricardo also took us to Taberna da Poncha so we could try traditional poncha, which was another lovely touch and something we probably wouldn’t have thought to do ourselves. The whole day was completely private, very relaxed and never felt rushed. Ricardo was happy to answer anything we asked and told us so much about Madeira, the places we visited and life on the island. We honestly couldn’t recommend Madeira Tours by Diogo highly enough. We enjoyed the day so much that we’ve already booked another tour with them for the East Coast before we leave Madeira. 10/10 from us. Thank you, Ricardo, for such a memorable day.

This was a perfect way to see so much of Madeira! Diogo (and his brother) were great guides (with great English). Even the ride between stops was beautiful. We were able to tweak our tour a bit to see more of what we wanted to. Traveling in a van was so much more comfortable than the jeep tours looked. I will definitely recommend this to any friends or family who come to Madeira. We saw what we wanted without the terror of driving ourselves lol.

We had the most amazing day with Diego as he smoothly guided us to each of the must see spots in the north and west of Madeira! As a 5th generation Madeiran, his knowledge of culture, food, agriculture, restaurants and landmarks was top notch. We got the bonus of knowing him as a person on our drives in his spotless and comfortable van. The tour was personal and relaxed, exactly what we wanted. We wish we could give him more than 5 stars as he gave us a lifetime of memories. He even provided tips after our tour ended for the rest of our week. Diego goes above and beyond and is worth every Euro of the tour! Highly recommend!

It was an exposure to the beauty outside Funchal…seaside villages, forested mountainsides, dramatic cliffs, and swimming pools created by lava flows. Our tour guide Ricardo was entertaining, informative, and accommodating. Truly one of the best guides we have ever had.

I had the pleasure of doing several tours with Diogo and Riccardo during my time in Madeira, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Between the different tours, we covered nearly the entire island, with plenty of flexibility to spend more time in the places that interested me most while still making sure we experienced the highlights of each region. They shared insights and introduced me to places and perspectives I never would have discovered on my own, making the experience feel much more personal than a standard sightseeing tour. We booked the West and East side tours with Diogo following a recommendation from a friend who travelled to Madeira and he did not disappoint. The tours were amazing showcasing the beauty of this island. We were able to take our time and enjoy the stunning views and we did not feel rushed. Diogo was great. He was professional and very friendly. We felt looked after by him with his careful driving and he accommodated our needs and preferences. We learnt lots about Madeira and he was eager to learn when we shared the similarities to our culture too. We were so happy with Diogo that we booked a sunset tour with him. The sunset above the clouds is very special. He also helped organise our last hike before we left. We highly recommend Diogo and his company.

The experience was incredible you really get to see everything on the west side with all of its beauty. I made so many memories and Diogo was so informative and friendly he explained everything and made sure we knew when we were going through the famous tunnel. He some how managed to put up with my families non stop talking lol and we had an amazing time I really recommend it was epic

We have booked 2 x a private day trip with our family. Both the east side and the west side. Both sides are beautiful with breathtaking views. Because of your private booking you can take the time you need and you don't have to wait unnecessarily. The had forgotten to book the levada walk at the east tour but Diogo fortunately arranged a last minute booking for us. In the refrigerated car we enjoyed the explanation we got about the island. The 2nd day tour was provided by his brother and there we also got plenty of explanation. Really 2 sympathetic, accessible men. Even our timid adolescents started the conversation and asked questions. We got nice tips about local restaurants and also called on the taxi service that Diogo offers outside the tours. Always punctual, smooth return, a safe feeling and a correct price! Highly recommended!
