Description

See Washington DC's historical monuments and memorials up close and personal on a 3-hour bike tour with an informative guide. Cruise around the National Mall and the Tidal Basin to see some of the most famous sights, and take breaks to walk around and explore attractions like the Lincoln Memorial. Our Monuments tour does cross streets but there is no street riding making it the perfect option for families and those who may not have ridden a bike in an urban environment. On a bike, you're able to see so much more than on foot or on a bus! If you've never taken a city city tour before, DC is a perfect city to give it a try. We know that once you've toured by bike, it will be the first thing you look for on your next trip to another city! Please note that the "what to expect section" provides a sample itinerary and you may tour in a slightly different order based on what may be going on in this busy city on the day of your tour.

Itinerary

15 min

Arrive 15 minutes prior to your tour time to check-in and be fitted on your bike. Unlimited Biking is located at 701 D Street NW Washington DC 20004.

5 min

Arrive at the Jefferson Memorial and hear a few facts about one of the most impressive monuments in DC. You'll have a chance to walk up the steps and check out Jefferson's bronze statue and enjoy the views across the Tidal Basin.

15 min

As we respect our memorials, we don't ride through the FDR Memorial, so you'll dismount and walk your bike through the impressive four "rooms" that represent the terms FDR served our country as president. There are some unique photo opportunities inside. And make sure that you stop to rub Fala's ears for good luck!

10 min

Again, we don't ride inside the memorials, so you'll stop just outside and hear from your guide before taking a few minutes to walk into the MLK memorial through the "Mountain of Despair" to the Martin Luther King memorialized in the "Stone of Hope".

5 min

Like many of the memorials in DC, the Korean War Veterans Memorial holds many secrets of symbolism that you may never know if you visited on your own. Your guide will share a few facts that will just add to your awe of this impressive memorial. Remember: "Freedom Isn't Free".

10 min

Some people say that a trip to Washington, DC isn't complete unless you see Honest Abe sitting in his place of honor overlooking the National Mall. Are Lincoln's hands are making sign language symbols of his initials "A" and "L"? See for yourself when you climb the steps up to the top after your guide shares some insight into the design of one of our most storied memorials.

7 min

You'll stop just outside the Vietnam Wall to learn about the design and thought behind this impressive tribute to a conflict that holds such a personal connection for so many of our guests. Some of the stories that our guides share will bring a tear to your eye.

15 min

The Vietnam Women's Memorial is dedicated to the women who served, most of whom were nurses.

7 min

One of the newer memorials in DC pays tribute to those who served in World War II. Your guide will share some insight on the design and history before providing a few minutes to explore. You may even be able to see the only "authorized" graffiti on a DC memorial.

5 min

Have you ever noticed that the Washington Monument is actually two different colors? You'll learn why on your tour...along with several other fun facts about this iconic memorial to the United States first president. (Note: we do not go into the Monument)

best way to see...

best way to see monuments. Guide could have been more enthusiastic and provide more information: Wasn’t much help fixing the bikes at the start. Bikes were of good quality though.

Matthew is the best!

Matthew is the best—his bike tours are phenomenal! We did the e-bike tour, and it was the perfect way to see all the highlights with minimal effort. This was actually our fifth bike tour, and we’ve never had a bad experience. It’s such an awesome way to explore a city. You get to cover so much ground in a short amount of time, stop at the monuments, hop off to look around and take photos, then hop back on and keep going. You see so much more than you ever could from a bus or by walking. Anytime someone tells me they’re coming to DC, this is exactly what I’ll recommend. We’d absolutely do this same tour again!

The experience itself was...

The experience itself was great, but I didn’t get the “right” ticket, but the park workers let us go anyway. I paid for the tickets even though others were free and almost didn’t get to go.

Bad experience

My grandson fell and could not continue the ride so we had to walk the bikes back. They couldn't arrange a ride back for us( 2 grandparents and the boy). They offered the boy a ride but we couldn't allow him to do that alone. It was over a mile to walk the bikes back. It was very hot, we got lost and they did not refund our money.

Operator response

We're so sorry to hear about your grandson's fall, and we're glad to hear he's okay. We understand how difficult and frustrating it must have been to walk the bikes back over a mile with the whole group, especially without a way to get everyone back together safely. This isn't the experience we want any of our guests to have, and we'd like to look into what happened with the return options offered that day. Could you share your booking details with us directly so we can follow up properly? We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Great for adults AND kids!

The BEST way to see the sights…. Walking would have been too much for my 3 kids. It was their favorite thing we did on vacation. I was so happy there was even a bike for my 7 yo and he was able to do the whole ride with no problems!! Highly recommend.

Operator response

Thank you, Lisa! We're so glad biking turned out to be the perfect way to see the sights with three kids in tow, and that even your 7 year old was able to complete the whole ride comfortably. Hearing it was their favorite part of the vacation means a lot to us. Hope to see your family again soon!

Amazing!!!

We took part in a guided bike tour of Washington DC, and it was AMAZING!! The weather was out to get us, with over 100’F over the 4th of July weekend, but the experience and our outstanding guide, Benham, made it all worth it! I would absolutely recommend this adventure, so worth it!!

Operator response

Thank you, Jennifer! We're so glad Benham made the experience amazing despite the intense heat that weekend. That kind of dedication really does make all the difference. We'll pass along your kind words to him. Hope to see you again under cooler skies!

With navigation app and Grok, no need for your guide. Tour was so so.

The tour was mediocre. Retrospectively, we should’ve just ran into the bike bikes and gone on a self guided tour. With a navigation app and Grok, you do not need a tour guide.

About 7 miles of fun

I’d definitely recommend this Washington, DC bike tour, it’s a fantastic way to see the city and many of its iconic monuments in just a few hours. Joe was an outstanding guide: knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely funny, which made the tour both informative and entertaining. Joe has two simple rules: 1) He values your safety, and 2) He values everyone else’s safety. Follow those rules, and you’ll have an amazing experience. One thing to note: don’t expect to get close to the White House, as access is currently restricted due to construction. Even so, you still get incredible views and plenty of opportunities to experience the history and beauty of Washington, D.C. Overall, this tour was a 10 out of 10. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the city!

Operator response

Thank you, Adris! We're so glad about 7 miles of monuments and history made for such a fantastic way to see the city in just a few hours, and that Joe stood out as an outstanding guide. We'll pass along your kind words to him. Hope to welcome you back soon!
