Ask for Onni. He is amazing. Knowledgeable patient customizable beautiful tour of an island most don’t know exist

Experience our beautiful motu in comfort as we take you on an unforgettable tour. Our spacious 4WD whisks you away to the stunning and less-accessible parts of the island that some tours don't go. The Waiheke Island Experience includes breathtaking vistas across the Hauraki Gulf, beautiful beaches and some of the best venues the island has to offer. We can discuss options with you to ensure you get to do what interests you most. Our 4WD vehicle is ideal for couples or small groups (max 4 people) and we happily take children if you can provide any vehicle safety equipment they may need. The tour starts at 10.45 am and ends at 3.45 pm unless otherwise arranged. Note: tours are customised for each group and venues are subject to availability. Please visit our website for special offers.
We like to be flexible and give our guests ownership of their tour so if you wish to swap out any of the stops below for another venue, we are open to that and are happy to discuss either prior to, or on the day of, your tour. Stop times are estimated so there may be options to add an extra venue if we are running early.
Scenic drive to Onetangi passing through Oneroa village and a short stop at Palm Beach.
No visit to Waiheke would be complete without a visit to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With views of Great Barrier and Little Barrier Island in the distance, Onetangi Bay has over 1.5 km of beautiful golden sand and we encourage you to take a stroll on the beach here - or even maybe a quick swim!
An exciting and scenic drive through Waiheke's farmland takes us to Man O’War vineyards where the tasting room is set back from the beach in beautiful shaded surroundings and offers a range of food and wine tasting experiences. Established in 1993, Man O’ War consists of 150 acres of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks. Lunch and wine tasting are available here if you wish, whilst soaking up the views over the bay to the Coromandel coastline surrounded by Pohutakawa trees. www.manowar.co.nz
To continue our journey, there is an option to stop at Waiheke Distilling Co (www.waihekedistilling.co.nz) for a boutique spirit tasting with truly spectacular views across the Hauraki Gulf to the outer islands and Coromandel Peninsula - and perhaps a cheeky cheeseboard!
Mudbrick Vineyard is world-renowned for its award-winning wines, restaurant, and Italian-inspired rustic gardens looking back towards the spectacular Auckland skyline. A wonderful place to end your Waiheke Island tour.
We may have time before dropping you back to the ferry or your accommodation to explore the selection of interesting stores, galleries and cafes along the main street in Oneroa Village. Enjoy a coffee with a view or cool down with a delicious Island Gelato, one of our favourites.

Ask for Onni. He is amazing. Knowledgeable patient customizable beautiful tour of an island most don’t know exist
We had a great experience, Onny organised a great itinerary, his knowledge and passion about Waiheke added to a very memorable day.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful day on Waiheke Island with Onny. His local insights were particularly helpful, and he is very entertaining. I was a bit concerned about the limited TripAdvisor reviews for this tour, but you should not be. Highly recommend for a wonderful tour of this beautiful island.
Onny was a very informative and friendly guide! He gave a lot of helpful insight to the islands history as well as everyday life. He’s open to deviating from the schedule as the group feels too!
My wife and I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour. Onny was a fantastic tour guide- his commentary and perspective really made the island come alive for us. In addition, he was able to accomodate one late request we had which my wife really appreciated. Our wine tasting at Tantalus was one of the highlights of the day.
Wonderful day! The weather was great and the scenery was amazing! Beautiful wineries with good wines…. Only was knowledgeable and well connected. We were able to see ALOT of the island and experienced a variety of things.
Thank you Sally! We really appreciate you leaving a review. Onny really enjoyed your group and showing you around our paradise! Best wishes for the rest of your travels! Nga mihi, Lee and Onny
Onny was an amazing guide. The entire trip felt like we had a friend showing us around the island. He made sure we got to do the things that were priorities to us and added a few things that made the trip extra special. It was well worth hiring a private guide to make the day special.
Hi Holly. So glad you both enjoyed your day with Onny! Thank you for the lovely review. We hope the rest of your travels are amazing! Lee and Onny.
I organized a 5 hour tour for my parents to help them celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They had a thoroughly enjoyable day with Steve. They were able to personalize the tour to their fitness and interests. Waiheke Freedom Tours were a pleasure to interact with, and had clear communication as I made the booking. An excellent way to see Waiheke with insight from a local.
Thank you for the positive feedback. It was a pleasure to spend the day with your parents and I'm pleased they had an enjoyable day on their anniversary. Thanks Steve
We had visited Waiheke Island on a wine tasting and dinner tour during our last trip to Auckland and it had been enjoyable. But the island looked to be so lovely we had wanted to see more of it, especially it’s natural beauty. This tour was perfect for that. Steve provides a small, personalised and flexible experience and takes you off road to places not accessible to other tours. He was friendly and knowledgeable and an excellent guide.
Thanks for the great feedback! It was good fun showing you around the island and I'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best with your travels! Steve
Steve gave us a fantastic experience in Waiheke. He met us promptly at the ferry, answered hundreds of our questions, had tons of local knowledge and insight and charm. He obviously enjoys what he does and is proud of his island paradise. We never felt rushed nor neglected. The Man of War beach and wine tasting were off the beaten path (no exaggeration there) but a wonderful experience. He took us to the best ice cream shop on the island and then dropped us off at the Mudbrick winery where we had arranged to dine. But not before touring us through the property so we knew our way around. There were four of us touring and we were comfortable in his SUV. He was very accommodating throughout the day. We would highly recommend Steve. Great value for your money.
Thank you so much for your kind review. It was very enjoyable spending the day with you all and I'm happy you enjoyed exploring the island with me. Best wishes Steve
