Great school holiday activity
Very engaging workshop for the kids and the tour was awesome, not just for LOTRs fans.
Operator response

Laid back sculpting with modeling clay
Fun, laid back workshop. Tools are made available and you are given some tips on creating a head with modeling clay and replicate textures with monster clay. The clay is oil based and therefore does not set up permanently, but you are given your modeling clay to take home to continue practicing. One item I would like to see added is something from the main tour, the Wētā workshop does amazing sculpting work with aluminum. While we had a chance to play with aluminum sculpture in the main tour, it would be nice to see it featured in some way in the sculpting class. Even a mention with some examples and a brief demonstration would be nice, especially since aluminum is so readily accessible to most anyone.
Operator response
Kia ora,
Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review! We’re so pleased to hear you enjoyed the relaxed, hands-on nature of the workshop and appreciated learning techniques for sculpting and texture work. It’s great to know having clay to take home added value to the experience.
We also really appreciate your suggestion about incorporating more reference to aluminium sculpting within the class. Feedback like this is valuable as we continue to review and evolve our workshop offerings, and we’ll be sure to share your idea with the team.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

Must Do
This was my third visit to Weta Workshop in Wellington, I have no advice for them to improve what they do. We went to learn about the magic involved in creating the most amazing characters and props for the movies, we were not disappointed. I took my grand-kids who are 7,9,14 and 15 they loved it. What they make look easy and so realistic in the movies, comes together after hours, years of dedication to creating the perfection we love to watch. The Gallipoli display at Te Papa is one of the very best things I have ever seen (4 times) it was initially only supposed to be there for 5 years and it's still there 10 years later drawing crowds everyday. This is a magnificent and emotional experience of which I doubt, can be equaled anywhere and it's all down to Weta's incredibly talented, dedicated team. I can't say enough about the Te Papa team for the way this display has been set up, one visit is not enough to take in all. Weta is one of my favourite visits of all time.
Operator response
Kia ora,
Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and generous review. We’re honoured to hear this was your third visit and that each experience has continued to be so meaningful. It’s wonderful to know your grandchildren enjoyed the tour and were able to appreciate the dedication, time, and craftsmanship that goes into bringing characters and props to life on screen.
It is also wonderful to hear about the impact the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa has had on you over multiple visits. Hearing how strongly this work resonates is incredibly affirming for the talented and dedicated teams involved. Thank you for your continued support, it truly means a great deal to us to be counted among your favourite visits of all time.

Fun and informative experience.
Informative and enthusiastic instructor. Only 10 people in the workshop, allowed for clear guidance and support. 90mins, with hardly any time sitting just listening, before being able to start creating. Supportive to all attempts and styles. Light hearted and easy going environment.
Operator response
Kia ora,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so pleased to hear you enjoyed the small group size and found the workshop both supportive and engaging. It’s great to know the instructor’s enthusiasm, clear guidance, and light-hearted approach helped create such a welcoming environment, especially with plenty of time to jump in and start creating rather than just listening. We really appreciate your kind feedback and hope to welcome you back again soon!
