Visit to Glenside Hospital Museum

What an interesting and important place to visit. They information was laid out in an easy way to understand and there was plenty of it to make a really enjoyable couple of hours. the volunteers were very welcoming and informative. I learnt lots of new things that i didn't know about Glenside. What a bargain too! £5 for a whole year's ticket. Thankyou. We will be back

Fantastic museum detailing the development of the mental health care system over the years. So many artefacts detailing the treatment handed out to former inmates in the chapel of the former Glenside lunatic asylum. Highly recommend

What an incredible experience this was. Living in Bristol my whole life - I didn’t know much about it but after leaving I learnt so much more about that significant help it provided. For only £5 donations and you can take as long or as short as you want. It was the perfect day out. Will defo go back again with more friends to showcase the facts and great history.

Absolutely fantastic museum. Knowledgeable friendly volunteers who work hard to make this an amazing space to learn about the former pyschiatirc hospital and psychiatry. The guided tour of the former hospital grounds is a great way to learn more and Tea in the Turret (when available) is a fantastic way to hide away overlooking the museum with tea and yummy cake! Check museum website for tour dates and tea in the turret dates. I love visiting this museum it's one of my favourite places to go when I can. Excellent ticket price which gives you a year to visit again and again. If I lived closer I'd volunteer myself! Thank you to all at Glenside Hospital Museum

We went on Bristol walking week in May. We did self guided tour around the grounds which is free. The grounds are pretty and very interesting facts on the guide. We went into the museum which was £5. Each and great value. Small and again positive informative. The staff were friendly and welcoming

What an incredible place! I wish I’d known about it earlier. For starters, the volunteers running the museum are incredible, super friendly and knowledgeable. The museum has all sorts of really genuinely interesting pieces, from artefacts to art installations, and stories that have been carefully and lovingly pieced together from the very real people who passed through (or didn’t leave!) the hospital. It is truly eye-opening. Educational, emotional, humbling, raw and sensitive all at the same time. This museum should be visited by anyone who’s had contact with mental health care, or looking after a loved one. It’ll make you pause and think about what is really best for people.

What a gem of a museum this is! There is so much to see and understand about the history. It’s fascinating! On entry, I was asked if I’d been before and on my first visit was given a brilliant short background talk and pointers on how I might structure my visit. But there was no pressure, I was just free to wander as I pleased (with volunteers on hand if I needed them). The beauty is that, for your £5 admission, you get unlimited visits for a year! I’ve been twice so far and definitely plan to return so that I can explore everything further.

Really goox. I visited earlier this year, as really wanted to visit. The staff were excellent interesting talks. I think great value for money and it was an eye opener about esrly mental health. I liked the qr scan codes which told you about indivuals who had been at the hospital. It was well displayed, with alot to see, I found ut fascinating. There was even a little shop. Well done to all for making this place a gem.
