Visit Kamp Vught and Kamp Amersfoort

Description
Visit Camp Vught and Camp Amersfoort on a private WWII remembrance journey with Dutch historical researcher and storyteller Martin van Elmpt of Tour Guides for You. Both camps played an important role in the German occupation of the Netherlands, but in very different ways. We explore the sites, memorials and personal stories of prisoners, resistance members, forced labourers and victims, while placing both camps in the wider history of persecution and occupation. This is a private historical journey, adapted to your pace, interests and knowledge. If your main aim is to visit one former camp rather than two, ask me about Westerbork as an alternative. For many visitors it is the more extensive and rewarding camp site, with more to see and a powerful connection to the deportation of Dutch Jews. If you have a family connection or specific story you want to explore, tell me in advance. It’s your day, your journey—the idea behind Tour Guides for You.

Camp Vught, or Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch, was the only SS concentration camp outside Nazi Germany during the Second World War. We will visit what's left of the camp, the exhibitions and the execution site.
Kamp Amersfoort was a brutal camp for prisoners of all backgrounds. Common criminals, political prisoners, resistance fighters, Jews and Russian POWs all stayed here. We will visit the remainder of this kamp with a renewed exhibition centre and its surroundings.

As cruel as people can be, you feel that very hard here. The many stories of who experienced it brings this reality very close. You leave here with a lot of impressions in your head that you don't just shake off. Nicely designed museum with a good balance between information and 'feeling'.
